“a romantic retreat untouched by time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2010

I loved this place!! It looks and feels like the 1920's and I found that very charming. The staff was friendly and accomodating...even though I do not speak Italian..some how they understood me quite well. The food in the restaurant is fabulous. make reservations. some nights there was a concert outdoors.. a violin concerto that wafted through the hotel and was just beautiful. The grounds are lush with mature trees of all varieties from around the world. The owner walked me around the grounds and explained hoew he had planted the trees with his father in the 1930"s as saplings and now they are towering over the buildings! There is a well kept clay tennis court that gets alot of daily uuse. some of the rooms over look the courts and have huge windows that open for a great view, There is an out door gazebo for meals and drinks..also table seating around the grounds. I really can't say enough about this retreat- like throw back in time hotel..I LOVED it!! I would recommen it highly and I will be returning!! Tutte benne!!!

“Beware – Arrogant - Not Welcoming. Questionable Ethics and Integrity.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2010

Made reservation in March 2009 for planned stay from October 5-8, 2009. Made deposit of 120 euros based on Gabriella Cinelli’s (Owner/Operator) written commitment that provided I advise her before September 29th, the deposit would be refunded in the event I needed to cancel. In early Fall of 2009 my sister-in-law was diagnosed with very aggressive terminal cancer. We had to delay our trip to Italy and immediately care of my wife’s sister. Advised Gabriella Cinelli (Owner/Operator) on September 10th of this sudden and unexpected tragedy that necessitated a change in travel plans. After death claimed the life of my wife’s sister we decided to re-schedule the Italy trip for September 2010. Had no problems with all other accommodation providers. Only EXCEPTION was the Hotel Ristorante Adriano. Gabriella refused to confirm our re-scheduled reservation because I would not send an additional second deposit. Sent a series of e-mails in hopes of securing a confirmation of the re-scheduled reservation, but without any success. Gabriella Cinelli decline to reply to my messages and did not have the courtesy to provide any justification for keeping the previously made deposit of 120 euros. I definitely WOULD NOT deal with anyone at the Hotel Adriano and strongly recommend that this hotel be avoided at all cost. Intend to continue to work at getting my deposit returned even if it means stopping in personally when I am in Italy this coming September.

“Getting dated and a bit out of touch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2009

This hotel is ideally positioned for seeing the gardens at Tivoli, but it is rather out of reach for much else. It hasn't been kept up to date, and now needs a good workover. Relaxing atmosphere and relaxed staff...

“Find another hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2008

Location, next to Hadrian's villa, is the only reason to stay at this past its prime hotel. We had booked a junior suite only to discover that the two rooms were smothered in dark heavy brocaded fabric and carpeting, all of which had seen better days. There were unknown stains on the wall as well. We switched to a regular room which had mold on the ceiling near the air conditioner but bare floors which made it seem cleaner. The bathrooms however were very clean, the shower was excellent and the towels large and fluffy. Breakfast was the usual continental fare, though considering that there is a school at the restaurant I thought the pastry too seemed a little past its prime. We ate dinner at a restaurant called La Ronda in Tivoli and it was an outstanding meal.

  • Liked — Shower and towels
  • Disliked — overall shabbiness and lack of care.

“Great location for Hadrian's Villa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2008

We originally booked another hotel for our May 2008 visit but arrived to find it covered in mud from a recent flood, so we called Hotel Adriano out of our guide book. They had a room for an OK price (more than we wanted to pay but offset by the fact that they said it was easy to find and they had a room and we did not want to spend lots of time calling around) so we took it, and we were pleased with it. It really was very easy to find since it is literally across the street from the entrance to Hadrian's villa - just follow the signs to Villa Adriana and its right there. Parking was kind of screwy because they were having a large party that night. They let us park alongside the hotel in the drive to a house behind the hotel, which was not a problem as we were not going anywhere other than Hardian's Villa that day. I think they are usually allowed to park over at the Hadrian's Villa public lot. Our room - a junior suite i think - was fine although the decor was a bit dark and dated. The whole place seemed to be a bit past its prime - I believe them when they say Fellini loved it. We had one room with a desk and sleep sofa and a bedroom with a king sized bed . The bath was between the two rooms, and was very large compared to our hotel in Rome. It had a full tub, not just the shower enclosure, and plenty of hot water, good water pressure, heated towel rack. We had TV, fridge, individually controlled ac. There was an elevator but we did not use it. All the rooms seemed to be one flight up. The food in the restaurant was delicious - really - and reasonably priced. The restuarant seems to be part of Slowfood. They have a lovely covered terrace where we had lunch, and had there not been the big party I think dinner as well. There are also a big and small dining room. Breakfast was in the small dining room and was good - cereal, rolls, selection of cakes, yogurt, mixed fruit. There was a dog on the property right next door, but he did not keep us up barking. As I said there was a party the night we were there, but it seemed to end at a reasonable hour - midnight or so. The following day we went to Villa d'Este and the drive was very easy - maybe 10 mins. It was also pretty easy to get back on the road to Rome. The staff were all very nice and although only a couple really spoke english and my italian is very limited we managed just fine. If I go back I would look at other places but would not mind staying here again. If you are going to Hadrian's villa you cannot find a more convenient hotel.
