I went to Ivanhoe hostel with a friend. I called the day before to confirm (as they asked me to do) and told them that instead of 5 nights I only wanted to confirm for 2 nights. I had the feeling that we might not want to stay such a long time there cause when I booked (directly on the spot) I had to deal with this young useless guy at the reception, and an excited guy who looked like the boss was yelling in the corridor, talking to his friend on Skype. Not a good sign I thought.
When we got there, the change in my bookings was actually a problem (unlike the girl said to me the day before on the phone "no problem !"). So the manager came and yelled (again), saying to his employee in italian "It's 5 nights or nothing !". Five minutes before he was jumping in our arms shouting "French girls ! French girls !".
Anyway we've managed to deal for 4 nights at the end.
On our first night there a bunch of drunk guys came into the hostels by 3.30 am. They were shooting in the corridor. The whole hostel could hear them. It was the manager and his friends. It's just incredible...
On the morning my friend woke me up early. She wanted to leave cause she got bitten all night long by some... beasts... I realised I got bitten too. We were disgusted, well angry, and we just left (at 7am).
We got badly bitten by some (bedbugs I suppose). I had 35 bites, mainly on my throat. As I react badly to bites, I had to go to the emergencies the day after (they took me first when they saw my throat). I had an injection of cortisone, had to take a treatment, and suffered for days from the itching. That was my experience at the Ivanhoe Hostel...
PS : also, you have to be out of the hostel during the day, from 11am to 4pm, for your information
