“Small and quaint”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2010

Okapi Rooms is in a quiet street in a great location, close walking distance from the Piazza del Popolo and the Corso. It was fairly easy to get to, about 5-10 minutes walking distance from the underground railway station. Although the directions given by the hotel were not at all helpful, I used a map to find the hotel.

The room was tiny but very quaint; it had such a lovely atmosphere that I didn’t mind the smallness of the room. The window looked out onto a quiet and pretty laneway. The bathroom was really small, you could hardly move – but clean. The shower water was not hot but warm.

The staff were very friendly and very helpful (helped me with my luggage) and spoke quite good English. I made two requests; another towel, more coat hangers, and a staff member was at my door with the towel, then coat hangers within five minutes.

“Central location”

This was a well located hotel, with great staff and lovely rooms. Private taxi service available to the airport and iron available upon request. No breakfast or mini bar fridge. Located to many cafe's and easy reach to the sites and shops. Airconditioning and free wifi. I would recommend this hotel.

“Good position and helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

I stayed here for four nights and found Okapi perfectly acceptable. As I spent my time on organised walking tours around Rome (Presto, Context Travel and Through EternityTours) and just walking everywhere else - about 10 to 12 hours a day - I didn't need a view as, by the night time, I only wanted to sleep.
Petronella and Mel were very helpful and the lady on the last morning allowed me to have a later check out.
The room was small but the a/con worked and the bed was comfortable. I had enough hanging room in the wardrobe and the in-room safe was useful. When I had trouble using my laptop for emails, the staff were very helpful and offered an alternative.
The position is good and I would recommend the hotel to others especially singles as the room (14) would have been squeezy for a couple especially the bathroom. The price at 65euros a night was very good for Rome and for the position. When my daughters visit Rome I would recommend Okapi to them.

“A great choice”

Did the usual blind search of hotels in an unknown city and chose this one based on the reviews. LOCATION was everything as I was a solo traveller. Wanted to walk everywhere and I could.! Street is old and quaint and just off from the main manic strip of Via Del Corso (which actually I loved) It was near to bars, coffee shops restaurants, shops and major attractions. I guess you could get closer to centre by staying near the fountain, steps or colluseum but it was much of a muchness to be honest.

The room I had was small but fine for a few nights. Bathroom was clean, good towels and modern. The hotel really is teeny and if you are tall I guess could be a pain (quite literally) lift is tiny and staircase is snug. I loved it's oldness but it was not shabby. The curtains and bedspread were old fashioned but the aircon worked well (close the windows as is doesn't work with them open) tv, radio etc all good. No kettle for coffee and tea. I think a front of hotel room may have given me a view. I didn't have one....but staff were efficient and helpful.

“Too bad because”

it could be just great. The location is perfect ( across from the Hotel Locarno) and next to two good restaurants ( one to the left and one to the right). The problem is the front desk staff during the day/evening. They are off hand and rude and make it clear that they are doing you a favor by being there. I had a problem with the a/c and was told that it was NOT a problem but that I was imaging that it had gone off! I had stayed there once before and thought that I was just being too picky but my second and LAST stay proved me right. Beware or be prepared.
