Just got back from my first trip to Rome with my best friend and we stayed at Residenza Domizia. We chose this accomodation after checking the reviews on trip advisor and I can only echo what everyone else has said, It is a fabulous location and residence to explore Rome from. It is not a hotel, it is a very small B&B (just 6 rooms) situated in a narrow lane in the oldest part of Rome, very close to Piazza Navona. We were due to arrive at Domizia late in the evening so phoned to arrange entrance, I spoke to Tomaz and he was very helpful, I was given a code to enter the building and told where a key would be to access the room. Having never been to Rome before I didn't know what to expect so when we put the code in and opened the main door, our first impression of the building was a bit disconcerting, a very cold shabby communial entrance hall but we went upto the first floor, found our key then entered the room......inside it was fantastic beautifully decorated, seemed to be newly re-furbished, there was a small reception area and then a corridor with the 6 rooms off it. Our room was small but very well equipped and decorated. The en-suite shower room was also decorated well with clay tiles on the wall and stones set in cement on the floor. The shower was on the small side and although this was not a problem for my friend and I, anyone tall or overweight may have struggled to shower comfortably. Also because of the traditional style of the building we had two windows but no views, this was not a problem for us because the views were just outside the front door! We freshened ourselves up and then went straight out into the Rome streets, the local area was very safe as was all of places in Rome we visited. Even though it was 11 in the evening, bars, cafes and restaurants were still open and some busy. I had researched the area before we came but had no idea how ideal it was for walking to the sights, we were 500m from the Tiber and the Vatican accross the river and 100m from piazza navona. It took us 30 mins to walk to the colosseum and roman forum area and 10 mins to the trevi fountain. We only had 2 days so had to limit our visits but with more time we could've walked to the spanish steps and the villa borghese and gardens too. We had a fabulous time in Rome and would not hesistate to book this accomodation again. Finally I was expecting Rome to be very pricey and can say in my experience this was not the case, the area we stayed in had so many places to eat and drink, you could spend as much or as little as you liked. You could buy bottled water for 2e a litre, eat a panini made freshly for 2e or main course pasta, pizza or salads for 5 - 7e. Wine was good value but if you like Bacardi(as my friend does) expect to pay from 7 to 14e for a bacardi and coke!!! We found the 7e option at the abbey irish pub just 2 mins from our room.
