My husband and I were on vacation in Tuscany when some family members accompanied us on a trip to Rome. They took care of the accomodations for us, selecting the 'da nonna Clementina', a bed and breakfast in the heart of Rome. They had heard from other family members that this was a great place to stay. We were not disappointed. It is walking distance to absolutely everything. Very easily found, charming, very cean and very quiet. A perfect get-away spot in a beautiful city.
On our return to the U.S. I researched this place online and found them listed as a hostel, but believe me, this is not what I would ever think of as a youth hostel. Everything lovely and very peaceful even though in the heart of Rome. Natural domed brick ceiling, elongated windows, charming courtyard entrance. Walking distance to the hop-on hop-off bus tours and just about everything else. The breakfast is strictly continental--croissant, jam, yogurt, orange juice, coffee. But it is enough to get you started first thing in the morning and out the door. Extremely affordable for Rome and not something you'd find listed in the usual tour books. The owner told me they had been opened for business as a B&B for only a year, so it may be too new for most listings. We certainly would never have found this place if our hosts hadn't already known about it. So give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
