“Location is nightmare”

This hotel is located in quite rural area and it wasn't easy to find it. Rooms are basic ,no frills, no luxury, however clean. Breakfast had good variety of delicious food. Two male receptionists were exstremely helpful and that is the most appealing thing about this place!
If you don't know Rome well and planning to stay in this hotel, make sure you have compehensive map with you, because most maps you can buy don't include this part of the city.

“Perfect place to stay if you like a bit of quiet after a busy day's sightseeing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2010

We have really enjoyed our stay in 'Il Romitello' - the service was excellent from beginning to end: emails with enquiries beforehand were answered promptly and during the stay the staff was also always very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious enough and very clean. It might not be the most luxurious or modern place but it has everything you need including comfortable beds. As mentioned in previous reviews it's not difficult to get to the place once you have figured out the bus routes and we actually quite enjoyed the bus rides through the residential area as it gives you the full picture of Rome (public transport is cheap enough: 4 Euros a day pass to travel all around Rome).
If you stay in 'Il Romitello' and you love fish and seafood we urge you to go to the restaurant 'Sa Mesa Longa'. It was recommended to us by staff in the hotel and we loved it!!! They offered a 25 Euro menu including drinks - just the starters could have fed 2 people for the whole evening but then the mains followed and the fish platter and seafood pasta were unbelievable. The second time we ate there we tried the 'non-fish' starter and this time we were spoiled with a huge selection of ham, salami and cheese. Don't be put off by the fact that they don't bring you a menu, they are very flexible with what they cook for you. The meal was topped off with a nice dessert and digestive and left us wanting to stay in Rome for a little longer...

“Excellent value and hospitality!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2010

Stay here! The manager, Jose, is the best! Extremely helpful and friendly ~ actually the whole staff is incredible! The hotel is located a bus and metro ride from the center, which takes about 30 minutes ~ not bad if you don't mind taking transit or if you will be renting a car. Quiet, clean room with a fan and big windows ~ a bit stuffy in August but not unbearable. Breakfast is plentiful and is hosted by the sweetest Italian lady ever :) Delicious pizza nearby ~ just ask Jose. Free computer and internet access on the first floor. Excellent value for your money. Will stay there again if we go back!

“Mosquitos!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2009

Hi

My husband and 3yr old stayed here. The staff were very friendly and the room was kept spotless by the maids.

Our chalet was situated outside in the grounds. The bed filled most of the room, so not much room for 2 Adults and 1 lively child! If we were to stay again I would ask for a room in the main building.

Breakfast was lovely and Maria who helped out was really sweet, and would go out of her way to help, as would all the staff.

As the previous post, once you knew your way around town, the transport links were good.

The one and only thing that marred our trip was the mosquitos. We were eaten alive, and I still have the scars to prove it. There was no warning before we arrived or from the website about this, so were unprepared. Our daughter mangaged to get just a handful on her legs, but still not nice to see a child suffering bites like these. There was a screen covering the tiny window to the chalet but this was uneffective. I would warn people to take some precautions before they stay here.

It was great value for money, but I wouldn't recommend the chalets in the grounds!

“pleasant surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2009

This place is not easy to be found by just using public transport. We managed in the end, but as the only means of transport was bus with a bus stop not close to the place, it was a struggle. Once you know your abouts, it actually takes only 5 min. to the bus stop and further 20 to 30 min. ride to the city. The main road Torrevecchia is lovely, busy district with lots of eateries, pizza places, coffee shops and gelato parlays. In fact, you can take a bus to the city and hop off along the way as you see many other shops and eateries. Better than trying to find a dinner deal in the city. Romittelo itself provides quite simple and very basic accommodation to budget travellers. It was quite and had its ambience with its private chapel, park, balconies... Some of the pilgrims even could organise their own party in a common room. Staff was very attentive and helpful. Breakfast was quite ordinary, cereal, toast, jam, but you could always get fresh fruit from the local fruit market for a nickel and a supermarket was a stone through away. Next time to Rome and we will, we will stay in there.

  • Liked — the atmosphere, its ambience
  • Disliked — hard to find
