“Amazing B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2010

We stayed here for 4 nights at the beginning of July 2010 and it was amazing. Giovanni the hotel owner met us in the street (well we stumbled across him as we couldn't find the entrance!), and he took us up to the apartment/b&b and showed us our room. It was really nice, well decorated and clean, a decent size and it had a balcony! The bathroom was nice and pretty new too. There was a TV with digital channels, mainly Italian, but we didn't go to Rome to stay in and watch TV! There was a small table and chairs where Giovanni's wife brought us breakfast on a tray every morning. It was a really nice continental breakfast, with plenty to keep you going until pizza at lunch! The breakfast was served at anytime we wanted between 8 and 10 so that was good. The apartment block was really nice and boutique with an old cage style lift in the middle of the stairs.
The hotel was located just next to San Giovanni Cathedral and sqaure just outside the old city walls, and the metro station was only a 2 minute walk. There were plenty of buses into the centre where the metro didn't go to as well.
I would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone. At this price it was a bargain for the standard of accomodation and level of service. Giovanni was extremely helpful and explained where all the sights were and how to get there, and also recommended some fantastic restaurants.

“Nice neighborhood, close to metro, great owner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2009

My wife and I (in our fifties) just returned from Italy and spent 5 nights at Via Veio 52. The B&B is on the 4th floor of a typical Rome apartment building, and has only a few rooms. We like very much the neighborhood. It is only a block from the metro, and then 4 or 5 stops take you to the center of Rome, but it's far enough out to have more of a typical (non-touristy) neighborhood feel. Our first room was small, at the back of the building, with a large window, and then we moved to a larger room at the front of the building, also with a large window. We slept at night with the windows partly open with no problems. There is of course some street noise but you are high enough up that it's not annoying, and the street itself is a short, narrow side street without much traffic. Close by are a bank, restaurants, Internet cafe, a market, drug store, etc.

The rooms are very clean and basic, with comfortable (for us) beds. The kitchen is small and breakfast is simply self-service, with cereal, yogurt, or toast with juice, and access to a refrigerator, toaster, sink, etc. There is coffee, or head out on the street and in 5 minutes you can take your cappucino at a lively bar / shop.

We walked in the neighborhood several evenings and the area seems quite safe.

We were very happy here and I must express appreciation for the exceptional kindness of the owner, Bernardo. We would be pleased to stay there again, and Rome is wonderful.

“Loved the Cityroom B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2007

A Belgian friend told us about this place; we loved it! The proprietor Giovanni picked us up at Ciampino airport around midnight (charging 35 Euros, by pre-arrangement); he was very accomodating and helpful. He speaks a little English (we don't speak Italian and we did okay). It is not a fancy hotel (so don't expect 24-hour front desk or lobby). We paid 80 Euros per night for 2 of us; it is sparklingly clean. Our room had marble floors, high ceiling, mini-fridge and tv, wonderful air conditioning that we could control ourselves. The room wasn't huge but the size was just fine, and had a nice private bathroom including bidet. Garage arking is available for a fee; on-street parking is also an option. Giovanni brings continental breakfast to the room at the time you request (up to 10:30 am, I think). There is a dept. store nearby, and a food market (with different stalls) right across the street (ask Giovanni about hours). Also, Giovanni is part of a network of B&Bs and can help you find a place if the Cityroom (sometimes spelled Citiroom) is all booked up. We found this place to be a good bargain, and extremely pleasant.

The Cityroom is very close to the S. Giovanni di Laterano church and metro stop, and thus is a quick ride to the Spanish steps, etc. We went on foot to the Colossieum (took about 20-30 minutes). Also nearby is a fabulous neighborhood trattoria specializing in fish, "La Mosca Matta" -- some of the best food I've ever had in my life (it's at 13/17 via Rimini).

  • Liked — Great value for the money. Very clean. Friendly, helpful proprietor. Non-touristy neighborhood.
  • Disliked — It's further from the famous sites of central Rome -- but then again, it's nice to be out of the hubbub and save money.
