“better than we thought”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2010

we stayed at the domus victoria on 11th oct to 14th oct. when we got there we were shocked because of all the graffiti and the rubbish all over the place. you go into the b&b via a large door into a courtyard and up a small lift to the apartment which has been converted into 4 rooms. our room was on the front and was noisy but amazing. this is what to expect from staying in a city. We had coffee and tea facilities. the breakfast not worth bothering with a croissant and a tea or coffee or orange, I like a good english brekkie. We were 10 mins work to the colleseum and other sites old rome etc. Would recommend the b&b, but beware the italians are mad on the roads and so rude, no please or thank you in shops . Would go back as didnt see all. The metro is worth the 4 euros for day ticket gets you every where. if you fly to campino airport just get the bus and the metro to the centre cheaper than a taxi.

The Domus Victoria was very difficult to find as most hotels in Rome are but the service was amazing. We didnt arrive until 11:00 at night and the staff where happy and helpful. The room where had cute little complimentary snacks and the breakfast was a typical Italian breakfast of coffee and pastries so if you are a big eater dont assume this is included. Many of Romes Highlights including the Colosseo and ancient city are located within walking distance of the hotel.

“low quality”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2010

Very basic, small, shabby, no a/c, sqeaky fan. Breakfast across street consisted of a coffee and croisaant while standing. But there was some free nescafe and juice and tea and some cookies for snacks though. If we had not requested a pick up service from airport there was no way we could find this place.

“Basic but good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2010

The hotels location to the Rome underground is good. It's a about a 5 minute walk to the nearest station, and a further 10 minutes to the Rome Termini station. Only downside being that once it gets dark, I found the area to have a slightly less that safe feel.

The rooms were fairly basic - two beds, a tv and bathroom which contained a sink, shower and toilet. The walls can be a little thin and as we were located close to the door, we could hear people coming and going during the evening. It wasn't too bed a deal as most people we back by about 9pm.

Each day we got a small pre-packed baked good and juice carton to take with us if we wanted.

The "front desk" is only open between 8am-2pm and mainly consists of the person who cleans the rooms (who is lovely).

The Wi-fi is free but the signal is fairly weak and tended to drop out every so often.

The hotel definately had the feel of a diy B&B were guests are expected to fend for themselves and only a bare minimum is provided.

Overall not a too bad place if you are looking for somewhere to spend the night and are fairly independent.

“Conveniently located, very comfortable newly renovated hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2010

The guest house was very clean and newly renovated. There are only a few rooms in what is essentially a converted apartment- meaning that all rooms are accessed from the entry corridor. The 'front desk' is located just off to the side of the corridor and is staffed within very specific times frames (but they were more than willing to have someone there if you were arriving outside these times). The staff were helpful and polite but the lack of a 24 hour desk means there are very few extra services or facilities. This arrangement was perfect for me but book this hotel only if you are after a clean, convenient room and not for other facilities.
You enter the building through an entry court located at the north side of the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II. The room was generous- particularly for something in this price range- and reasonably quiet at night even though it is located just off a busy public square. The room I stayed in was the double bed room shown on the web site and I can't comment on any of the other rooms.
I selected the hotel because of its convenient location near Termini Station and the metro. This is often seen as a disadvantage but I preferred this because it wasn't as 'polished' as other areas I visited during my stay. It is also within walking distance to the Forum precinct. The restaurant selection in the area is okay but it only takes 15 minutes walk to get to two or three other restaurant precincts.
The only problem to report was with the internet connection- it was poor and quiet slow- the wifi range was limited and to get a stronger signal you had to get close to the front desk located in the corridor. Mind you from other reviews this is not an uncommon issue. A final note- there is (very tight) lift access that might be a problem for less mobile people with lots of baggage.
I would be more than happy to stay there again.
