We stayed at the Residenza Santa Maria on our first holiday as a family. Our room was spacious, it was a room facing the street but it was a quiet street. Only on Saturday night some noise from a nearby disco (each time they opened the door we could hear the music). Not very loud though. It is a lively neighborhood and that`s also why we wanted to stay here. It`s so convenient to stay in this neighborhood and be close to so many nice restaurants, galleries and shops. Small minus points: shower drain a bit clogged, no central heating so air conditioning system is used for heating, and found long black hair in bed that definitely did not belong to us. Would stay again though, everything else was great.

The location in the bustling part of Trestevere is ideal. Its still walkable to get to the ruins, Campo de Fiori, the Pantheon, Jewish Ghetto, etc. Decent restaurants are nearby and the staff is very friendly and helpful. A full buffet helps you get going in the morning.

Nestled away in Rome's most lively and authentic area, Trastevere, lies the Residenza Santa Maria, A little gem that has everything you would hope for in a Hotel. With only six rooms, the dedication to customer service, made us feel like we are staying with friends. Literally a 2min walk from a treasure of great local restaurants, a Piazza that boasts incredible Ice cream (or cappucuino in the morning) and bustling locals enjoying a stroll, it was a home away from home. Coming back to our room was a pleasure, with a small warm living room, furnished with ancient roman reliefs, books and various guides to Rome, which we enjoyed immensely, a small courtyard with alfrescos (perfect to sneak a cigar whilst the wife slept) and a downstairs bar that is stylish and comfortable. The highlight was Stefano, the owner, who bent over backwards to ensure our stay was nothing short of perfect. A charming italian, who showed where to eat the most delicious bowl of pasta ever, booked tours for us to see the best sights and really made us fall in love with Rome. The residenza was the start of a love affair with Rome and now that we moved here, we still pass by every so often to enjoy a glass of wine. A true standard of what travelling should be like.

Really pleased that we chose to stay in Trastevere - excellent area to spend the evenings in, lots of restaurants to choose from - early evening drinks in the Piazza Santa Maria. Enjoyed our stay in the Residenza - pleasant, helpful staff. Good breakfasts. Our rooms were very quiet(Rooms 4 & 5) - but think those with windows onto inner courtyard could be noisy in summer since guests probably sit out there till late. Showers good though not as much hot water as we would have liked (toilet flush a bit temperamental!). Liked the fact that there is very little traffic in this part of Trastevere. Would definitely recommend the area and the Residenza.
