“Spotlessly clean accommodation in perfect location for St. Peters”
For anyone wanting to be a 5 minute walk from St. Peters, this is the place to stay. It is also near restaurants, an ATM and a pharmacy. It has a garden, which in a city is a major plus. It is secure, none of my group of 26 lost any belongings while there. The reception staff are vigilant about who comes in, and only people with room keys are let upstairs. The outside gate is shut at night and you have to ring the bell to be let in. One night we saw very suspicious people trying to get in - they did not succeed. A room safe cost us €5 for our stay of 5 nights. The whole building is incredibly clean. The continental breakfast consists of toast, croissants, rolls, jam, cold meat and cheese. The coffee was excellent. As in mainland Europe in general, the tea was not up to Irish standards.
The rooms are basic, but are ensuite with decent water pressure and towels changed daily. There is plenty of hanging space for clothes. No TV, but why would you go to Rome to spend your evenings looking at TV?
The Residenza is run by Peruvian nuns. There is a chapel for prayer and reflection, and a crucifix on the wall in the bedrooms. The Residenza would therefore not suit those who would be offended by its obviously Roman Catholic ethos, but would they want to stay beside St. Peters anyway?
There is a bus into the city centre - the 64 - watch your bags on this bus.
