“4 star??????? - Pah!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2012

I cannot understand how people have rated this hotel so highly. We thought it was a complete joke! The location was good and all the staff were lovely and friendly and very helpful - but I am afraid that this is where the good points end! If it wasn't for these points, we would have been plain miserable.
On arrival, we were offered an upgrade to "the best room in the house" for an extra £50 per night - we agreed and were very excited - until we got to the room. If that was the best room in the house, I'd hate to have seen the bog-standard rooms! The paint on the walls was falling off, the TV didn't work (and was never fixed) and it just looked generally a bit shabby and dilapidated. The website says it has been recently refurbed, a big selling point for us, but we did not see any evidence of this at all.The shower was an awkward unsatisfying dribble and the products provided were decidedly 2 star rather than 4. Just so u know, I have never felt compelled to write a review of a hotel before but this hotel was so blatantly not a 4 star.
By far the worse part was the breakfast which did not consist of barely anything! There was gross bimbo style bread (the type you get in spain when yr desperate), 3 types of anemic looking cereals (all gross), dry croissant things, some cake, yoghurts, cheese and ham (all poor quality), no fruit at all unless u begged and they reluctantly bought you out a bit- it reminded me of the sort of continental breakfast you suffered on school trips - not when paying premium rates for a supposed 4 star hotel.
I could bang on about this hotel for ages, but I'll spare you all the details - just one other point. When snowed in with the freakish weather of last week in Rome, we tried to order from their in-room menu for room-service. We were told that the hotel does not have a restaurant and that one can only order drinks. The website is extremely misleading as it states there is a restaurant on the roof as is the in-room menu which teases u with food you cannot order (the menu is actually for a restaurant up the road). Insult was added to injury when we spotted a laminated notice with the menu saying that guests are not permitted to bring in food from outside the hotel into their rooms! Absolutely ridiculous especially given they do not offer any food for their guests themselves!
I will end this by saying that the spa is average, badly organised and the steam room smells of B.O. We are judging this hotel by its star rating which it does not even slightly deserve and thereby we give it 2 points - simply for the lovely staff and good location. Don't bother guys xxx

“We were sent to a different hotel after arrival!”

We booked this hotel and were very excited about going to Rome. We got to Rome early in the morning, and could not check in so we arrived to the hotel to drop off our luggages and went for a walk. Nobody said there was a problem.
After walking through whole Rome, we came back to the hotel about 5pm, absolutely exhausted. We were then told at the reception, that they could only accomodate us for one night... The explanation was that their booking system has fell and they lost part of the information - apparently this is used by many hotels as they try to book as many guests in as possible. We were so tired we didn't even argue because they showed us a location of the other hotel and ask us, if we wanted to stay for one night and then move again, or go to this substitute hotel there right away. Of cource we agreed. This new hotel was also supposed to be in the historic area, close to Colosseum. They paid for a taxi to drive us there. We couldn't believe when we entered this new hotel. Is was also 4star hotel, but hardly 2 stars in reality.
Unfortunately, this ruin the whole Rome experience for us. We complained about it after we got back to UK and got one night refund back.

“Different Experience from Others”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Having read the reviews of this hotel on trip advisor i booked a room for 1 night as part of a trip to Rome and Florence. My experience of this hotel is very different to other people.

When we first arrived the check in took ages because the people in front of us said that their bag had been stolen from near the main door to the hotel. I don’t know if this was true or not but the couple seemed sensible and unlikely to make things like that up. These things happen in hotels, but what was shocking was the reaction of the hotel staff, they literally couldn’t be bothered.

Our room was too hot (then too cold) and having had a shower (no sunken baths in our room unlike other people who have reviewed) we nearly flooded the bathroom. They have some type of funny wet room style arrangement with a shower door that doesn’t tightly close and a drain in the middle of the floor. Having the bathroom floor so wet was irritating when trying to get ready for dinner etc.

Having had a long day walking around Rome, and having picked this hotel because it had a spa (and one would think swimming pool, steam room etc) asked reception where it was located. I was told that there was no pool etc and that if i wanted to use what limited things they had I’d be charged 25 euros a day! Not what i expected from a 4 star hotel where use of these faculties are normally free!

I also had to use the computer in the hotel to print our tickets for the plane home. Again in a 4 star hotel it’s normally free to use the internet for 5 min to do this, but again, i had to pay 5 euro and i used the computer for literally 5 min. Not good.

The check out was also slow which cost me another 10 euro (having the taxi wait outside – perhaps an ‘arrangement’ between the porter and the taxi?)

Rooms very tacky for most none Italians.

All in all very poor. Much better hotels just down the road and better to stick to a bigger chain hotel.

“Wonderful experience!!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

I booked Romanico Palace looking for location and price. After viewing the reviews I was a little concern about the service and rooms, however I have to say that our experience was exceptional. Our room in the 5 floor (521 and 519)were perfect, clean neat and very Roman. The furniture was beautiful and in perfect conditions, the bathroom was majestic (not one tile missing) very nice shower, hot water at all the times, soft white towels and even the toilet paper smelled good . The employees were extremely helpful and very nice, every recommendation regarding tours and restaurants were perfect, Daniela the concierge was great. The area extremely safe we walked at all hours of the night. The maid found one of my pearl earring and left it in my night stand (very honest employee). The only area that needs improvement in my taste would be the breakfast (more variety) I would give that beautiful terrace more use, the view is incredible. Do not go to the next door restaurant 2 croissants/ 2 coffees ***15 euros***next day we went to a bar in the corner, the same order
*** 6 euros. Remember rooms in Europe are not comparable in size to the ones in U.S.

Nice hotel and booked at a reasonable price. Located near the American Embassy and out of the chaos of the other areas. Fabulous shower and tub (sunken). Room is comfortable. No complaints.

Room Tip: away from the main street
