Stayed for 5 nights in May for the Champions League final. Hostel is approx. a 10 minute walk to the Vatican City walls and Metro station. Is quite cheap to stay here because it's not slap bang in the centre, but worked out well for us as it's only a 10 minute walk to the Stadio Olimpico.
The hostel is at the far end of a side road off the main road. The hostel is quite basic and is a little scruffy, but for the price you can't complain. There is a small kitchen (which we used) that has cooking stove, fridge, utensils etc. There are 3 bathrooms; the main one has 3 showers and 1 toilet and sinks. There are also 2 private bathrooms that have a shower and toilet in them. The bathrooms are basic and could do with a bit of smartening up but water runs fine and the toilets were clean. The bedrooms are typical hostel dorms; bunks and lockers. The bed I had was fairly comfortable. You need to bring a padlock for the lockers (the lockers are quite big!). There is a bank, supermarket and a McDonalds literally behind the hostel so food and drink are never in short supply!
If you go to somewhere like Rome then you are hardly going to spend any time in your hostel/hotel as there is so much to see and do. We literally only slept and showered there, the rest of the time was spent seeing the city so if you're happy to rough it a bit then this place is perfect.
