“CityBreak”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Stayed at these apartments in February. Flight was delayed and had to call ahead and found reception very helpful and waited till we arrived before closing. Room was clean and plenty storage. Kitchen is very small and could od with new cutlery and crockery but clean and tidy. Roof terrace although not used was lovely and well equipped. Room cleaned daily and staff very helpful. Superb location for doing sites as all within walking distance and only 2 minutes to St. Peters Square. Be careful whilst in Rome with restaurants that rip you off. Found 2 excellent establishments for dinner at night which were minutes away. If in doubt follow the locals.

“Would recommend!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

Just got back yesterday (Fri 14th October). Apartments well situated, a 10-15 minute walk to the Vatican and if you walk down the road, and down the steps, this takes 5 mins, there is a bus stop, take number 64 to travel to most attractions, the number 46 to come back.
There is also a nice restaurant opposite this stop called 'Papa Rex'. The apartments were very clean and comfortable, baths a little short but fine. The hotel staff were all nice and friendly and happy to help with any trip. Alessandro (not sure if spelt right) was especially efficient and polite. Supermarket 10 mins up the road. Would recommend airport shuttle transfer to and from the hotel booked through Expedia. We had 2 rooms, both had a double bed in bedroom and a separate single bed in living area. Roof terrace nice. My only suggestion of improvement is that a kettle, mugs, plates etc be provided. There were some and the staff kindly fetched bowls for us but it would be nicer to have the kitchen a bit better equipped seeing as it's self catering. The rooms seemed slightly smaller than they looked on the Internet but overall very good.

“If going back to Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

Went with my 15 year old daughter to Rome as a gift to her after her 'confirmation'. The stay was the last 4 days in August.

First we booked the hotel without reading the reviews, only requirement was a fair price combined to pictures at the travel agency (provided by the hotel) and located close to places we wanted to visit. After booking I saw these reviews, both the good and the bad ones, I was a bit worried to say the least.

For me and my daughter we have no complaints on the contrary we are very positive about our stay at the Vatican Suite. If trying I would suggest to increased the coverage of the WIFI area.

Arriving.
We arrived by taxi (the recommended white ones) a very bad experience including high speed, no marginals, driver had to stop to fill up gas and finally tried to scam me by changing 20€ bills to 5€ bills, trust me that I was upset when entering the hotel.

In the reception we met the representative for the hotel and she was quite friendly and had upgraded our room since I had asked if they had a room with 2 separate beds, so I got a double bed and a single bed in a separate room this was done without cost. The kitchen had a kitchenette, but according to the signs on the wall that was free of charge if renting a week or longer, of course my daughter very quickly discovered this and used the kitchen immediately and I guessed that the 30€ was gone, this based on earlier reviews. When checking out I told them that we used part of the kitchenette and they said it was not a problem.

We also had the cold water experience, couldn't shower for a day.. Only cold water and we really needed the shower badly, so what to do except take a cold shower.... After the shower I discovered that the switch for the heated water was turned off and it was I who turned it off the night before....

Service
All staff working in the reception spoke good English, was friendly and service minded. Especially the lady working was very friendly and service minded, she helped us with good tips of where to eat, where to go and which buses to take. I cant complain about cleaning since it was good. Daughter commented that it was always fresh and well cleaned.

Room
2 rooms (1 had a tv), 1 bathroom and a kitchenette.
Good standard on room and bathroom.
Beds was quite ok, slightly to short for me (I have normally 220cm due to my 200cm length) and a bit heavy but I slept well, so did my daughter.

Location and other
The Vatican Suites is located close to the Vatican wall and is actually quite well located, this we discovered after the 2nd day, but if you aren't afraid of walking 2-5 minutes to get to buses I would say it would fit you nicely.
WiFi work on the roof, which you can reach by elevator and sit down with your smartphone, laptop or even relax with family, friends or other guests. We lived on the first floor and we was offered a tp-cable, but unfortunately we only had our phones with us.

What we liked most was the room and the helpful lady in the reception.

Both me and my daughter agree that this residence earn a good reputation, hence this long reply.

“Great extended stay hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

This hotel received some spotty reviews, but my boyfriend and I had a wonderful time here. For a European hotel room, it was quite roomy. The kitchenette had everything that we needed to enjoy delicious food from various mercatis. As is usual in European hotels, the showers were a little different than American showers, but it was a tolerable difference. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. It is conveniently located to several tourist sites e.g. the Vatican and Castel Sant'Angelo and if you are an avid walker, you could walk across a bridge over the Tiber and reach many other tourist sites in about an hour or two of slow walking. There are also several close public transportation options if you don't want to walk over the whole city. The rooftop deck was beautiful and you could see the dome of St. Peter's Basilica from the comfortable and clean furniture. One piece of advice, they do not have "do not disturb" signs, so it would be recommended for you to make one if you want to sleep past 9AM since the cleaning staff comes around at this time. When I go to Rome again, I will definitely stay here since it is away from the bustle of tourists streaming through the streets at all hours and located on a peaceful residential street.

“Clean and comfortable but be prepared to walk”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2011

The rooms were in very good condition, clean and there was plenty of space. The bed was large and comfortable.

The staff were extremely helpful when we arrived and provided us with a great map and information on how to get to the most popular tourist sites, prices for the Metro system and details on how it worked. We speak only a tiny amount of Italian and all of the staff spoke great English.

The only down side is the location. Although it is only a 10 minute walk to the Vatican, it is approx. 25 minutes to the nearest Metro station, which is fine during the day but a bit inconvenient in the evening when walking to restaurants/bars etc.

Even with the location, this hotel is great value for money compared to more central Rome hotels.
