“Basic with less than helpful staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2010

Stayed in this hotel recently having seen how close to Termini station it is and also being attracted by the low prices. We had booked a "superior" room as having a 17 month old baby we thought we'd pay the bit extra for more space in the room considering the cot as well as our own bed. The website showed a spacious looking room which we presumed was the superior. On arriving late at night with all our luggage and the baby in the buggy, we discovered that to get to the reception on the first floor we needed the lift. Problem was, that lift needed a key to open it. Which was available at reception!! We dragged everything upstairs and were greeted by an unfriendl receptionist who completed our check in in virtual silence giving us little or no information about the hotel's facilities (subsequently we found there are none) Up we trekked to the 4th floor via the 300yr old lift and discovered that to get into the corridor you need to buzz reception and wait. Same to get in and out of all doors all over the hotel. Ridiculous. Our room was to our shock, tiny. We had barely enough room to walk around the bed. It was sweltering hot although the website had said superior rooms had A.C. This we were told was an extra €15 per night. Oh by the way, breakfast in this awful place was a further €15 per breakfast!!
I complained at the end of our stay that the superior room was a joke, that we had nothing extra to the standard. A very rude female who I found out afterwards was the owner informed me that we had a safe in the room, the OPTION of A.C and a fridge (this was empty). That made it superior. To add insult to injury, my parents who had reserved a standrd room were put up in a palatial huge room complete with jacuzzi! It turned out Hotel Dina had run out of space so they were put in the hotel attached, the Terni. She was argumentative to the last and thoroughly unpleasant to deal with. We paid our money and left vowing never to return.
The area it is in by the way is dodgy to say the least and dangerous to walk around in at night. The only thing that redeems it are the lovely restaurants around.
Never again...

“Not bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2009

The location, within walking distance of the Termini Station, was great for us since we were leaving Rome early the next morning. The room was fine, small and clean with a bad view of dirty rooftop. Expected a hair dryer but the one provided blew up. Within walking distance of some attractions including the Trevi Fountian and shopping. Wouldn't stay here long-term.

“Nothing special”

Positives--Hotel Dina is about two blocks away from the Termini station. Was very convenient to wake up and head somewhere via train. Price was cheap compared to other hotels in Rome. If you don't need much and just want a cheap place to sleep, this Hotel should work for you.

Negatives--Location, although convenient for train, is in a more run down area of Rome. High level of street noise can be heard throughout the night. Hotel is also showing its age. We had a quad room and was very tight with beds built for hobbits. It was something we could deal with, but if you are a "needy" person or are used to North American chains this hotel would not be for you.

Personally, if i ever went back to Rome I would not stay here. I would stay along the rail system in a nicer part of Rome. This area seemed very run down and actually gave us a disappointing first impression of Rome.

“ROMAN VERSION OF 'FAWLTY TOWERS'”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2009

Initial reaction was of 'Fawlty Towers' Italian style, where nothing was right. Stairs from ground floor to Reception on first floor. You need to request key to use lift from ground floor which otherwise operates from first floor and is used for both guests and services. Not advisable for anyone with impaired mobility / walking difficulty. First night horror of being told that we had to pay € 10 per day for air conditioning, despite this being included in the package for 'superior room'. Had to repeat the point to get concession we were already paying for. The room was grubby ... broken toilet seat and plug in bathroom basin not working. After some protestations and threat of going elsewhere we were moved to another 'superior room' in a refurbished part of the hotel, although this was not truly clean - bathroom stool had inbuilt grime on the seat. This room was much better and bed quite comfortable. Breakfast totally non-descript ... tepid hot water... expected to eat cereals from a plastic cup. Gave up after one day and resorted to our own supplies from nearby supermarket. Would never use this place again - grossly overpriced for what was on offer. Location is good though - close to main Termini railway station, but so are many other hotels, some of which are of a higher standard. Excellent restaurant directly opposite.
