Overall, the convent had a very homey feel that made it feel good to come back to at the end of a long day of touring Rome. The rooms were clean and nice though small. The surrounding gardens were beautiful and though the sisters ony spoke Italian, they were very friendly and cheerful. However, I had a few small complaints. If you talk in your room, you can be heard throughout the entire building and vice versa. This means that when I was trying to fall asleep each night I could hear people talking and it grew very frustrating. Also I was awaken earlier than I would like to be each morning by loud chatter. It was also difficult to get fresh towels. As I was there for 12 days, I wanted new towels but had a lot of trouble getting them. Other people in my group had trouble with a bad smell coming from their water that made their room smell awful. Luckily, I did not have this problem but they said it was rather unpleasant. Overall, the convent was comfortable and a good value. The location was convenient and though there were a few small frustrations, the stay was overall enjoyable.

This Convent is in the Monte Verde district of Rome. It was a bit difficult for our shuttle driver (Roma Shuttle) to find so be sure to bring the address and phone number with you. Our private shuttle was 65 Euros for five people from Fumicino airport to the hotel.

The Convent is a gated facility. You must be "buzzed in" after identifying yourself to the Nun at the desk. The Convent has a nice, quiet yard with parking available inside the gate. There is a small garden area, grassy areas and lots of plants/flowers. It has a very comfortable, secure and friendly atmosphere.

It is an easy bus ride to St. Peter's Square (Bus #870). A one-time trip on the bus is only 1 Euro for each passenger and takes about 30 minutes. We only took the bus once during our six day stay at the convent. On the other days, we chose to call a taxi to bring us into the city. The taxi ride was between 15 and 18 Euro each way and was about 15-20 minutes, depending on traffic. We brought business cards from the lobby desk as well as a map with us each day to show our cab drivers where we were trying to get to. Not all of the cabs come with a GPS so the maps/cards were quite helpful.

The English speaking Nun was extremely friendly and called a cab for us as we needed her to. She also arranged an early morning driver from a shuttle company for us on the day that we went to attend a Papal Audience.

The Nuns do ALL of the work at this convent. They are quiet, friendly and efficient. I recommend bringing a printed copy of your confirmation email with the rate quoted with you. I also recommend emailing the convent a few weeks and one week prior to your trip to confirm your stay. We had no problems with our reservation and our stay was GREAT.

The convent is located in a quiet Italian neighborhood. There is a nearby market within walking distance as well as several shops and restaurants. We ate lunch in Rome each day, but had dinner at restaurants in the area of the convent each night. We also picked up bottle water and some fresh fruits at the Carrefour Market to have on hand.

Breakfast at the convent is quite meager. There is coffee, tea, milk and water to drink. Breakfast itself consists of bread, biscuits (cookies), butter, honey and jam. It isn't much, but to be honest, we were glad to have a light breakfast so we could enjoy lunch in the city! We bought fruit and cereal at the market to eat with our breakfast and that seemed to work out perfect. For the price we were paying for the room, we were quite happy.

There is a vending machine on the first floor with bottles of water and soda as well as a few snacks. There is also a coffee vending machine in the same area. We had a TV in our room, but it did not have any channels - only fuzz. This was quite ok with us because we were so tired in the evenings that we cleaned up, got ready for the next day, read for a bit and went to sleep.

The biggest inconvenience for our family was the lack of internet in the facility. It is otherwise a great place to stay if you aren't interested in the night life of Rome (the curfew at Mater Mundi is 11 pm).

My parents and I stayed in this convent for 2 nights in September 2007. Our stay was very good. Our room had 3 single beds, the whole convent was almost empty except for 2 other rooms. Therefore, it was very peacul and we had the best night rest of our European trip!

Pluses: comfortable beds, Bathroom and room were clean. All the nuns that attended us were very friendly and helpful. One even let me used their phone and call my cousin in Rome. We paid 115 Euros for a triple room. Very peaceful place to sleep. There were no noisy guests, no street noise, so we slept very well after spending all day walking in Rome/Vatican.

Since the convent is located in a non turistic area - there was this great italian restaurant, super cheap about 7.5-euros for lunch including a drink and coffee (water, coke, etc) [ very close to the convent in the main road -5 min walk,]. Next to that restaurant they also had a gelato shop, but we never ate there. We always ate gelato in Rome.

Minuses:
-Location is a little far. We took 1 bus to get to Rome, and another one for the Vatican area. Since this bus stopped almost everywhere the ride was about 45 minutes. Still, this is a minor inconvenience considering all their other pluses.
-Curfew at 11PM. For us, it was never a problem at all, we were always dead tired by 10pm!

Other tips:
-We took "roma cabs" from Leonardo Airport, we were 4 people and it costed 55 Euros. Much better than taking the Leonardo Express 11 Euros per person and then getting a cab. I read about the Roma cabs in the Rome Forum.

I will recommend for the right traveler. If you are planning to party some nights in Rome, this convent is not for you.
