Rossanna is the most helpful person and a consummate host. Before we arrived, she answered my many questions about planning our Italy trip. She even said, "keep the questions coming". She arranged for a driver to meet us at the train station and greeted us outside on the street with hugs. That is the kind of person she is. She has lived in the U.S. so she speaks excellent English. She brings you breakfast everyday at the time you request it - juice, milk, yogurt, fruit, croissonts, toast. We arrived (during Christmas) in the evening to champagne and chocolates and treats. She makes you feel totally at home. You have daily maid service. She and her 88-year old mom come in and wash your dishes, make your beds and clean up. She even changed our sheets and towels in the middle of the week for us, without us asking. The apartment has an amazing view of the basilica dome and the pope's private apartment out each of the bedroom windows. It is an 1884 building with marble floors. It is her daughter's apartment so it is fully furnished. It currently has a bathroom with a shower/tub combo and washing machine (and she provides a drying rack), a fully stocked kitchen with a microwave (you could cook meals and save money but we enjoyed eating out - but heated up leftovers in the microwave), 2 large bedrooms - each with a love seat and table and chairs, and a hallway with a computer and printer. She also provides free wifi if you have your own laptop. Each bedroom has a flat panel LCD TV. You even get a cell phone to make calls in Italy - we just used it to call Rossana and tell her what time we wanted breakfast each morning but she provides you with emergency numbers in case you need them - she takes very good care of her guests. You get several keys - there are 2 doors downstairs that are locked for security. The key to the apartment door is one that can't be copied (so former guests can't copy and then come back and get in) so we took extremely good care of it so as not to lose it. She has very sturdy locks on the apartment door. Rossanna will give you advice on how to get around the city. She is a tour guide so she is very knowledgeable. She arranged for a driver to take the 4 of us in a large van to Pompeii and Herculaneum for the day (it cost a lot but the driver was professional with a new van and we could not have seen both sights in one day using public transportation). We stayed for a week over Christmas. We enjoyed the short walk to St.Peter's square at midnight on Christmas eve - amazing!!! And my son and I went to the Vatican museum one afternoon and there was no line at all. The weather was pleasantly cool and sunny almost all of the time. I recommend the off-season to avoid lines and multitudes of people. Allow as much time as you can in this beautiful, historic city because there is so much to see in Rome. This apartment was perfect for the 4 of us in our family. Rossana even got up at 3:30 a.m. to make sure we were awake to get our son off to the airport for an early flight (and she arranged for the driver). She is the most cheerful, thoughtful, patient and helpful person you could meet. She will treat you like family!!!
