We felt very lucky that we booked this B and B for the beginning and ending of our trip to Italy. (in fact, we felt so comfortable here, that we came back a day early, stayed here a total of 8 nights - 4 at beginning of 3 week trip, 4 at the end) This place is well named, Federica makes sure that guests feel at home. This may not be the fanciest place we have ever stayed, but it was definitely one of the most comfortable, economical, and just plain fun.
There are so many things to recommend here:
1. Federica, Mandica, and Georgio were all so kind and welcoming to us - they chatted with us about our respective children, talked with us about life in Italy, made us feel comfortable and "at home". They also help with maps, directions, tours, suggestions for dining, "how to" with public transportation, airport check-in, airport shuttle, etc. You name it, they will help you out. For example, while we were there, there was another American couple and the wife had injured her foot. They arranged tours that required no walking for them AND drove them to the airport. That to us was emblematic of their kindness and willingness to go the extra mile.
2. Location! We were walking distance to Vatican (we are however good walkers, others might feel like this is not so close - we could get there in 15 minutes, home in 20). But the really cool feature here is that there is a bus station in front and metro across the streets, so we were literally minutes away from all major sites in Rome. If you have walked around Rome much, the proximity to public transportation becomes a must, and this place has it.
3. Breakfast was lovely - not elaborate, but substantial. We had yogurt and fresh fruit - coffee to our exact taste (expresso for me, americano for my husband) and plenty of Italian style breakfast items: toast (in abundance!), pie, cheese, and cookies!
4. Room was COOL, QUIET, COMFORTABLE. After the heat and the crowds of Rome, this place felt like home. It was heaven to come "home". We struggled a bit with the heat in Rome, so it was luxurious to come home to a clean, air conditioned, and quiet place.
5. Free internet! Throughout Italy we paid different rates for internet use, .50 in Rome to 5 euros per 1/2 hour in CinqueTerre, and here it was free. Federica has a laptop set up for guest use and we could email parents and children, this was a major time and money saver for us.
6. All in all, we recommend this place! We in fact gave out their business cards to fellow tourists as we traveled around Italy. We liked the other tourists (from Italy, USA, and Singapore) we met there also. This was a great value in an expensive city. And the extra kindness and warmth of welcome, is priceless.
This Band B can be booked directly (you can email Federica at info@homebb.it - website is www.homebb.it) or through Venere.com.
We say thanks to Federica and Mandica for making our time in Rome comfortable and fun!
