“Locked Out”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2008

In fairness to other potential guests I am writing to warn you about Roman Sky B&B. The owner does not live there..he is only reachable by phone (and good luck with that!) This presents a problem for people arriving from other countries, exhausted and desperately needing their room. We arrived at the B&B only to discover we were locked out for close to six hours. The phone number on David's business card never worked..no forwarding message, etc. There was no note outside his doorbell. We sat on the curb for hours, with no phone, pleading every once in awhile with a stranger passing to see if they could help us. It was a nightmare. We hauled our 3 suitcases up and down hills trying to find a phone, or even a washroom. After 6 hours we finally discovered from someone in the building that the reason David didn't answer his phone was that he had left the country and was in the United States!! Never once did he send us an email to inform us of his travels, never once did he update his phone message to forward all calls to a new number...absolutely no help on his part. Apparently David had a friend helping out...we never met this person. He made the assumption that we would be let in by another guest...this particular guest never came home until after 9:00p.m!! After banging on the doors, we finally got in!! Once we got into the building we took a room...what a nightmare. Our whole day of planned sightseeing was ruined. We flew back to Canada the next day grateful to be going home! We will not let David's treatment ruin our wonderful relaxing holiday in Italy. But be warned. Choose a bed and breakfast where the owner is present and available to help. David's B&B does not even have a phone...if you need him late at night you will be forced to walk several blocks in the dark just to reach him!!

“Unreliable”

We visited David in January and had a lovely stay. We recommended it to friends whose parents loved him and his place as well. However, we now have a very different experience that is worse than finding e.g. a dirty place.... a closed door (despite confirmation the day before).

We booked in january for our parents to stay in at Roman Sky in May. We agreed to reconfirm one week before arrival, which we did. No reaction. We phoned several times, sms-ed several times, emailed... but NO reaction at all. As we didn't know what was going on (we were actually afraid that something bad had happended to David), we spent half a day looking for an alternative accomodation on Saturday. We found one, but that night we received an email that everything was fine and he had just been in the USA (don't they have email down there?). He told us everything was fine and that he would receive our parents at home in the afternoon Monday at 15.00. We cancelled the other appartment and our parents went happily to Rome.

Our parents (he knew they were almost seventy), arrived at 15.00 for a closed door. They called David on his mobile, asked the neighbour if they had seen him. We have called him many times... but no reaction. Our parents stayed at the next door neighbour for more than 3 hours.... and still no David (neither at the appartment, nor on the phone): what was meant to be a great relaxing holiday, caused significant stress to our parents. Now it is 21.00 in the evening, and still no sign of David.

Trust is key, especially when you go to a different place. You need to know what you can expect, especially on a vital thing as a place to stay. David is, unfortunately, NOT reliable. He offers a great service... if he is there. There are MANY other great placed in room with same value for money. This experience forces me to strongly recommend to try one of these other great place.

“Mostly for students”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2007

I have mixed impressions about this BB.
In fact I have had no problems during my staying there. The room (I had number 2, it goes as double) was really large especially for roman standart for hotel rooms. Good bathroon with shower cabin. No TV in the room. For 5 days stay my room was never being cleaned, neither linen and towels were changed.
In the kitchen there was coffeemaker and everything you may need for coffee, there was also fridge and toaster but I have noticed no teapot.
The BB is not very close to subway and bus stops but not extremely far, also. It is not sightseeing district, you need to use transport to get yourself to sights.

“Roman Sky and David are Great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2007

If you want a clean, confortable, and by Italy standards large B&B, this is the place for you. The owner David Grace is most gracious and helpful in providing directions, places to visit, and ways to get around. He recommended a restaurant to us for dinner (La Nuova Capannina) which is real Roman cooking at reasonable prices. Prepare to make friends but dont plan on rushing out, the experiance was great. He speaks excellant English & Italian. There are some attractions that need reservations made in advance and he was very helpful in setting them up. The apartment is in a residential section of Rome but a five minute walk to the Bus Terminal, Metro (Subway), and Train to FCO airport. Its a safe quiet neigborhood, a ten minute walk to the "Pyramid". Try to avoid rush hour when traveling by any method other than walking. Its a little tricky getting to the apartment but if you find your way to Rome and ask a Policeman or Bus Driver for Partigiani (Ostiense Station) via the bus or metro you are literally a five minute walk away. Its nice to have a quiet place to sleep when planning active day trips in the City.
Finally the apartment has an elevator for those who dont want to walk up to the fourth floor. The breakfast is adequate and the coffee hot. Have fun in the Rome

“Fantastic & Highly Recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2007

David Grace was incredible throughout our 3 week stay with him in Rome. He was very accommodating, friendly and very professional. He speaks perfect english and helped us find our way. When we booked our reservation we only needed one double room but at the last minute needed 2 rooms, which he quickly assigned us. I cannot say enough good about David or his bed and breakfast. Conveniently located near the autobus and train station. Thanks for all you did! We will send everyone to your B&B.
