“Recommended!”

The size of the room and bathroom was a pleasant surprise and the decor was charming! It was also nice to have the owner of the place help us plan our city tour. Breakfast was plentiful and totally suitable for being included in the price. My husband and I always rave about this place! If the prices continue to be competitive, I'd certainly return on my next stay.

“A Nice Room but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2010

I chose to spend our final three days in Italy here after reading positive Trip Advisor reviews about this B and B. Unfortunately, our own experience wasn't so great. We travelled Italy by public transport and had limited phone access. Although I had sent an email 24 hr in advance advising of a change in our arrival time, we spent nearly 2 hours in the apartment block's courtyard in a sweltering heat-wave waiting for someone to come and let us in. When a kindly resident called our hosts on our behalf (to let them know we where waiting) we were told to expect another 10 min wait, which turned into 20. To be fair, our host was very apologetic but it wasn't a good start. Our room was large, clean and tidy, and did have the advantage of air-conditioning but was still relatively noisy at night. Our ensuite bathroom was spacious, clean and tidy, but the shower itself was smallish and ran hot and cold. The free-access internet was "down" during our stay, as was our little in-room TV; however, we thought the actual location was good - an easy walk from the Metro station, a good little supermarket, and attractions such as the Colosseum and Roman forum. As other reviewers have mentioned, we found the room to be very secure with four locked doors between you and the outside world, and enjoyed the shared lounge and kitchen facilities. My biggest disappointment with this B and B relates to the inconsistent service we received - a concern also noted by other reviewers. The hosts don't live on-site and have to be contacted via cell-phone - not easy when you have limited cell-phone access. Breakfast was perfectly acceptable but was meant to be served at 0830 hr. We stayed for three nights - breakfast was late every morning (making it tough to get off to an early start) and simply didn't appear on our final morning. I found this particularly irritating as we had organised to pay our hosts the previous evening and had made them aware of our travel schedule (international flights) - and the need to get away on time - that morning. It didn't leave a very nice taste in our mouths...

Alexis was a great host .. was a great help planning our brief stay in Rome. His English was great and was a real help providing a map to outline the places in Rome we wanted to see.

The accommodations were clean, spacious and inviting. The place was conveniently located to airports and the subway. We walked to most of the main attractions and had a fabulous experience.

Cheers, Alexis ... we'll be back

“Nice place, but very inconsistent service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2010

Absolute B&B is a very nice place, but inconsistent service keeps me from recommending it.

First the good. The B&B itself is very nice -- the rooms are very spacious and clean, with nice furnishings. There's a kitchen (which guests can use) and a front parlor area where guests can read or hang out, which is nice -- an added plus compared to the other B&Bs we stayed at in Italy. The breakfast -- coffee/tea, juice, bread, cheese, jam, pastries, etc. -- was pretty good as Italian breakfast standards go.

The location is very convenient -- the hotel is about two blocks away from a subway stop (Vittorio Emanuele), which connects to many of the major sites in town (Vatican, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, etc.); that subway stop is only one stop away from the central train/subway station (Stazione Termini), so it's fairly easy to get in/out of town; it's within walking distance (about 20-minutes) to the Colosseum/Forum; and there's a great gelato place across the street and a supermarket a half-block away. The immediate area is fairly lifeless, though -- seemed perfectly safe, but not much pizzazz, and very few restaurants to choose from in that immediate area.

What keeps me from recommending Absolute B&B, however, was the inconsistent service. There's no one who actually lives/works at the B&B full-time, so you inform the staff in advance what time you plan to arrive, and then one of them meets you at the B&B to let you in, give you a set of keys, etc. When we arrived, it was no problem -- there was someone there to let us in (even though we were about 45 minutes later than expected), give us keys, provide us with a map and directions, room was ready early, etc. Once we had our set of keys, it was easy to let ourselves in/out for the rest of our stay. We noticed, however, that with at least two other sets of guests (over only a three day period), the staff failed to show up on time to let the guests in, and as a result the guests were stuck waiting in the courtyard outside the hotel for about a half-hour each time. If my wife had not had an international cell phone which we let the guests borrow to call the hotel owner (we had already turned in our keys on the second such occasion so couldn't just let them into the hotel), they likely would have been stranded for longer. On another occasion, the staff did not arrive to fix breakfast; when we called them, they told us where we could find everything in the kitchen and we were able to put it all together in only 5 minutes, no problem, but again we would have been somewhat stranded if we hadn't had the cell phone.

“Good points and not so good points”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2010

Absolute was kept clean and was comfortable. We found the shower to be quite small. Alexis was very helpful when he was there but that would only be at breakfast, so otherwise it was quite difficult to get any support unless you had access to a phone. The breakfast provided was good. You could walk from the Hotel to the Colosseum but you may want to use the Metro to visit any other sites. A metro station is only about three minutes away but at night we did not feel to safe in the surrounding streets.
