“Central,close to piazza barbieri,nice rooms,a little uphill”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

The building from outside does not look so good, it is a normal house, i was a little bit shocked when i entered and we had difficulties finding the entrance, nevertheless the room was very nice and clean...It is very central, close to the piazza barbieri and from there you can easily walk to all the interesting places..you will see all the interesting sights in a row..the pantheon, fontana di trevi etc. The only negative aspect is that there is a slight uphill from the piazza barbieri to the hotel. Another small negative happening was that we found a sock..or should i say the cleaning lady found it and thought it was ours...i told the receptionist and explained..she apologized and at the end we did not have to pay for the water we consumed at the minbar..Do not eat the croissants..the italians have no idea..we got them for breakfast at the hotel and they are of cause the typical italian stylecroissants..iiiii

All in all very expensive, but a nice comfortable room and for the small room sizes in rome very good

“Small and charming hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2011

We stayed there for a weekend city break. The area is ok, not very central, but with good acces to the metro (5 mins walk). It's also close to the main train station, 10 min walking distance. The outside of the hotel is not impressive, it is located on the 1st floor of a regular looking building, but once you get there the hotel is very nice! Looks newly renovated, both the lobby and the rooms. It is a small hotel but the rooms are very nice and comfortable. The service is excellent, the guys there did everything to help us when needed. An overall very pleasant experience.

“Satisfied although a bit expensive for a B & B”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2010

The hotel is situated near Piazza Barberini, close to the main attactions of Rome, Fontana di Trevi and Piazza di Spagna. The interior of the room is modern with a king size bed and the bathroom is very clean. But the breakfast is very poor, the receptionist was asking every day if we wanted croissant (one per person) and the last day no croissants left out! as we woke up at 10.00!!How many do they buy????????quite unacceptable for a room that costed 600 euros for 4 nights. Not withstanding, the truth is that all hotels in Rome are very expensive even these of low quality.

“Well positioned and comfortable modern B&B for a reasonable price.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2009

The interier was moden and clean and quiet and the continental breakfast was sufficient to start the day, although it seemed weird to only have 3 tiny tables for 5 rooms!! We felt very welcome and the staff were very helpful. Reception was covered 24 hours, so safety was assured. Location was within walking distance of everything we wanted to see and right next to the American Embassy in the banking area, just off the Via Veneto. Small supermarket next door too for all your needs. The down side was the street noise at rush hour - but it was quieter than most of the tourist hotels we saw. The plumbing was a bit feeble, but the water was always hot. We would use it again.

“Obscure (but central) location and a pleasant surprise...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2008

Our hotel of choice in Rome is the Albergo Ottocento. It is consistently wonderful. However, on this occasion, they were booked out but they recommended their sister hotel, the Relais Ottocento. The web site pictures looked good but there were no reviews to assist. But, since it was just for one night, we took the chance.

When our taxi took us to the address, we were a little perplexed. It was just a side street with a series of nice but unremarkable old buildings; no obvious hotel entrance or anything. Then, we noticed a small brass plate near a large door saying "Relais Ottocento". Pushed the intercom and were greeted by the (very cheery) receptionist welcoming us by name.

Turns out the Relais used to be a few apartments housed inside this old building and the owners of the Ottocento Hotel just converted them into 5 (yes, there are only 5) rooms.

After our initial worry, everything worked out just fine. The service at the Relais reaches the same high standards as the Albergo Ottocento. The rooms are decorated in more or less the same fashion too. Yes, they are small but, hey, this is Italy. the Albergo is most definitely a 4 star hotel; the Relais is closer to a 3 star but still very nice.

The location is not as central as the Albergo but it is still within easy walking distance of all the main attractions (in fact, the Relais is about 10 mins walk from the Albergo). It seems to be located in the financial district - judging by the number of banks around the place.

Anyway, looks like this is the first review of the Relais so, bottom line: recommended (although my first choice would still be the Albergo Ottocento).

Special word of praise for the staff: very very friendly and embarrassingly good English.
