“They cancelled on us the night before we were going to check in-no referral was given either!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 June 2010

My husband and I were planning to stay here for 2 nights. The night before our stay around 8:00 p.m. I received a text message from the hotel saying due to a broken pipe that all reservations were cancelled. While I understand this may have been unavoidable, I would at least expect that they would refer us to somewhere else nearby. Instead we flew out of Madrid and had to search for a place to stay last minute from the airport using their internet/business kiosk. We ended up at somewhere that was inconvenient to Roma and more expensive than we had planned on.

“Good base location but bring earplugs!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 April 2009

We wanted to visit Rome on a budget and this was one of the cheapest places to stay. It's a 5 minute walk from the metro - very handy. The room, with ensuite, was big enough for the 2 of us and was clean. But there was no service involved!! We didn't even meet the owner, a random guy (who didn't even tell us who he was) was there to let us in and that was all we saw of anybody for our 4 day stay. Cereal, bread, teabags, coffee and juice were left in the kitchen for breakfast. The street outside is so noisy that we had to buy earplugs to sleep through the night but that was our only real complaint. If you want to do a cheap stay this is not a bad choice, you get what you pay for, which is basic service. If you are out sightseeing all day and only need a clean place to sleep this b&b should suit

“Quaint Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2008

Crazy Holiday is owned by a lovely couple who are extremely nice and helpful. Is is located on the 2nd floor of a flat in San Giovanni. In a city where accommodations are extremely expensive, this bed and breakfast is a nice alternative. Although it is not located in the heart of tourist attractions, it is only a five minute walk to the metro stop. The bed and breakfast is an apartment~with four rooms inside. You pay for your room~all rooms except one have a bathroom inside of it. It is the bare minimum inside the room-bed, nightstand, mirror, and an armoire. Towels are provided. There is a shared kitchen area with some snacks. You are provided with breakfast coupons for the cafe downstairs near the apartment. They speak very little English in the cafe, but somehow we were able to get beyond that with our orders!

Great parts: great deal and helpful owners. Cleaned daily!
Not so great-it is a bit of a walk to the metro and the San Giovanni basically shuts down at 8 pm, depending on where your room is, a couple of rooms face the street and it is extremely noisy and was difficutl to sleep at night.

It's a good location if you are looking for a good deal and are staying over a few days. If you are wanting to be in the midst of attractions, I would not choose this location. This worked for us because we had carefully planned our vacation/trip--if you are needing assistance, it would be better to find a more tourist-focused accomodation.

“Beware, do not stay here!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2007

I booked to stay at the Happy Holiday hotel online and was booked here automatically after entering my credit card info on the happy holiday hotel website in October. I got to rome at 7 pm and arrived to this dark buildling that was locked. After getting into the building when some guy entered the place i knocked on the door and had some lady tell me that she is from Hungary and can't speak english and closed the door. I went downstairs and heard someone speak english. I approached her and she told me she was visiting from the states with her daughter and how the place was run unprofessionally and she had to stay in another place the first night as the owner did not show up and waited 3 hrs the next day infront of the hotel for the owner to show up. She gave the owner's business card and I called from a local pay phone two cell phone numbers and the landline and nobody picked up. I was in rome in the evening with nowhere to go! I stayed in the best western across the street. The next day I called again many times from a pay phone and nobody picked up. I went and knocked on the door and the owner was not there. I went back to the best western and man at the best western called crazy holiday's cell and he picked up! I have a feeling he was screening his calls. He told me that my room had flooded and that he had another property that he would send me to. The best western told me i should take this offer as all hotels were booked in rome this weekend as it was a long weekend. I had to take another cab across town and waited outside some residential buildling until this italian old lady and her husband showed up with their kid and spoke no english. We ended up staying at their bed and breakfast which was a totally different bed and breakfast. The place was dirty but was walking distance from all tourist attractions. It was great that this other bed and breakfast (although the place was dirty) took us right away, and the best western was clean and amazing. But stay away from Crazy Holiday hotel. I basically got left in rome with no where to go.

“Decent location and great rates”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2007

Was initially worried when the sister B&B we ussually stay in was booked as the site described it as a short walk from San Giovanni, whereas the sister property is on the Piazza. Not too far away from the Basilica and Metro as 5 or 10 minutes depending on speed/age etc. Decent sized rooms all with private bathroom, and although these were not massive, they were adequate. Breakfast quite basic but sufficient and the prices are really good because at the end of the day it is a B & B. I found the people freindly, and having the freedom to come and go when we pleased suited us, as we only really use the place for sleeping and showering.

  • Liked — great rates and spacious room, private bathrooms in B&B
  • Disliked — 5-10 minutes walk from metro and basilica San Giovanni
