“Beware, do not stay here!”

I booked to stay at the Happy Holiday hotel online and was booked here automatically after entering my credit card info on the happy holiday hotel website in October. I got to rome at 7 pm and arrived to this dark buildling that was locked. After getting into the building when some guy entered the place i knocked on the door and had some lady tell me that she is from Hungary and can't speak english and closed the door. I went downstairs and heard someone speak english. I approached her and she told me she was visiting from the states with her daughter and how the place was run unprofessionally and she had to stay in another place the first night as the owner did not show up and waited 3 hrs the next day infront of the hotel for the owner to show up. She gave the owner's business card and I called from a local pay phone two cell phone numbers and the landline and nobody picked up. I was in rome in the evening with nowhere to go! I stayed in the best western across the street. The next day I called again many times from a pay phone and nobody picked up. I went and knocked on the door and the owner was not there. I went back to the best western and man at the best western called crazy holiday's cell and he picked up! I have a feeling he was screening his calls. He told me that my room had flooded and that he had another property that he would send me to. The best western told me i should take this offer as all hotels were booked in rome this weekend as it was a long weekend. I had to take another cab across town and waited outside some residential buildling until this italian old lady and her husband showed up with their kid and spoke no english. We ended up staying at their bed and breakfast which was a totally different bed and breakfast. The place was dirty but was walking distance from all tourist attractions. It was great that this other bed and breakfast (although the place was dirty) took us right away, and the best western was clean and amazing. But stay away from Crazy Holiday hotel. I basically got left in rome with no where to go.

“Decent location and great rates”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2007

Was initially worried when the sister B&B we ussually stay in was booked as the site described it as a short walk from San Giovanni, whereas the sister property is on the Piazza. Not too far away from the Basilica and Metro as 5 or 10 minutes depending on speed/age etc. Decent sized rooms all with private bathroom, and although these were not massive, they were adequate. Breakfast quite basic but sufficient and the prices are really good because at the end of the day it is a B & B. I found the people freindly, and having the freedom to come and go when we pleased suited us, as we only really use the place for sleeping and showering.

  • Liked — great rates and spacious room, private bathrooms in B&B
  • Disliked — 5-10 minutes walk from metro and basilica San Giovanni

“Misleading website and previous traveler reviews”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2007

This is one of those Italian establishments where you check-in at one place, but they drive you to another hotel because the first place "was full" but "we're taking you to a better one." The attractive hotel website was nothing like the room we got. The traveler reviews on tripadvisor.com and hostelworld.com stated that there was "a kitchenette, a wonderful breakfast at the bar, and a spacious bathroom." There was no kitchenette, breakfast was just bread and tea/coffee, and the bathroom was so small that you couldn't shower without brusing your elbows or causing a flood. When I wrote about my experience on a travel website, I received two personal emails from this hotel telling me that I was "very stupid" and "I ate your stupid smile." I do not recommend this hotel because what was offered on their website did not match what we got and for the way they handled customer dissatisfaction so unprofessionally.

“Excellent base.”

This accommodation is excellent value for money and is in an ideal location. The metro is very close and easy to use to travel around.
I have just returned with my husband and two friends from this b & b. We stayed for 4days and enjoyed every minute. We were given vouchers to use at the cafe downstairs for our continental breakfast which was a good idea, although we had use of a kitchen which was good to make a coffee etc.when we arrived back after a day seeing the sights.
I would definately recommend this b&b.and if you ask for room 1 or 2 you will have en-suite facilities.Room 1 is a bit noisy as it is facing on to the very busy road, but after the 1st night you get used to it.

Offers clean, spacious and comfortable lodging in a great location. The rooms include air conditioning, safety box . The location, about 10 minutes from The Colosseum is great for site seeing. It is in a safe area near restaurants and small groceries. It is convenient to bus and train transportation. The hosts were very friendly and helpful, and generous . We highly recommend the Crazy Holiday to anyone looking for a bed and breakfast near the Colosseum or for that matter anywhere in Rome. You will not be disappointed!! It is very clean and new and all the rooms have private bathroom.
