“Nice Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2010

This is bit far from the main attractions in Rome. if you are in ROME for more than 2 days than this hotel suits you. Rooms are very big and comfortable.

Make sure to take the train timings from station. In Night train stops after 10:30 Pm and frequency is half an hour after 8 PM.

Breakfast can be much better. Not sure why they don't supply eggs in breakfast.

“Mallia needs to be more honest about its advertising details - what you see is not quite what you get.”

I travelled with my 11 year old son, and a 24 year old family friend. We had booked the Mallia through Venere.com as it looked comfortable but not expensive, and had free access to an outdoor pool. This pool was pictured on the Venere Website.
We were looking forward to the end of our trip and a few relaxing days in Rome with a pool to enjoy. Imagine our disappointment when we arrived there to find that the pool did not belong to the hotel. Instead, it was a covered pool which belonged to the sports centre next door, and that "free use" translated to guests over 18 years of age being allowed to swim in it from 9.30pm to 11pm only. Children could not use the pool for safety reasons we were told. Childrens swimming lessons were held there, but casual guests could not book in for lessons. Try explaining that one to a devastated 11 year old who is hot and bothered and dying for a swim. The reception staff would only say that conditions were "on the website". The website we used was Venere.com - check out what it says for yourself!! I have since looked at the actual hotel website, and they have added info about 18yr and over, but still claim an outdoor pool and a covered pool. We were there for 3 nights, and haven't seen an outdoor pool yet!! Our rooms were clean and comfortable, and serviced daily, and the location was reasonably convenient, but we do feel let down by false advertising. Also, there is a lot of noise from the covered pool area, which means that sitting out on your verandah of an evening is not so appealing. Noise can also affect your early night if you want to retire early with your book. The apartment kitchen did not have teatowels or dishwashing liquid/cloths - be aware that you will have to bring/buy these - but the local supermarket is quite handy and there is a cashflow machine locally too.

“Cheap but drab”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2010

OK location as just next to station, but not great if you want to stay out late in Rome centre as last train is about 11:30pm. From the outside the hotel looks grubby and we couldn't use our patio because it was really dirty and not welcoming at all (see pic). The reception area is very grand and nice and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The room was large but grim, very dated and grubby with damp and the bath was disguisting with rust from the tap to the plug.

The breakfast was hit and miss, some days they had more selection including fruit which was great, other days they didn't and the coffee machine was not working.

The surrounding area is quite and nothing happening, we only found 1 restaurant to visit.

It's cheap but you get what you pay for. The only redeaming feature was the friendly staff.

“False propaganda hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2010

This hotel makes a false propaganda.
They tell the hotel was 4 stars, but for me is none star.
I book this hotel in February, pay in advanced for 4 nights, but when we arrive in june, they give us a room totaly diferent from the pictures on the site (in the folder are the pictures). We ask to change to another room paying the diference, but the attendant don't give us attention.
He put us in a very bad room, where we need to climb a lot of steps ( an old person cannot stay there, is very dangerous), exist hair in the pillow and the bathroom is very small. I have 1,68 m, and my head touch the ceiling.
We book another hotel, and try to receive the money back from the Mallia, explaining why we are going out. They don't give back the money, and only say if you don't like, ok.
We stay in a lot of hotels around the world and in Europe we never have a problem like this.
