“Great location but does not offer what they advertise.”

I had been in touch with Hotel Doge the day before our arrival to explain that we would be checking in late. I was assured by a member of staff in writing there would be no problem. Upon arriving at Hotel Doge the following evening by taxi, very late in the evening, we were told that we were booked in another hotel without any explanation nor apology. What really bothered me about this experience was that I find it not only impolite, but quite frankly "dodgy" that a "hotel" would wait until its guests arrived at 12.30 a.m., before telling them they have been moved to another hotel. They could have also contacted us with a simply phone call as they had this information but it is certain they simply don´t care. You should also be advised that you will not be staying at anything closely resembling what Hotel "Dodgy" pictures on its website. Concerning the rooms, well when I opened the curtains, I was greeted with small pieces of falling plaster on my head and the bathroom was a freezer, no heating, with mold growing on the window panes. I must admit the shower was clean and the beds were miraculously neat and comfortable but that is the best I can say about this hotel. Don´t expect anything from this place besides a great location.

“Good location if you don't mind sleeping in a broom cupboard”

Absolutely loved the location of the hotel - 5 minute walk from Metro, Spanish steps and Trevi fountain, with loads of shops and restuarants near by. We stayed in a twin room that just about had room for two small single beds. There were no plug sockets that worked apart from the one the TV was plugged into so constantly had to unplug the TV. The beds were not flat, felt like I was going to fall out of it because it was tipped on one side no matter what I did. The bathroom was tiny and had mould growing in the corner of the shower which caused it to stink (the filter was full of gunk!) The shower, as well as being extremely small, took 5 minutes of running before the water came through luke warm and then only came out as a dribble. The walls in the room were extremely thin and half painted and the wallpaper was ripped and very old in the corridors. The choice of breakfast was good but again was set out in a tiny room with not enough tables for all of the people staying at the hotel. The breakfast staff were extremely rude to us and told us that we couldn't have tea because they hadn't turned the machine on yet and how can we expect to have tea as breakfast has only been open for 20 minutes... Would never go back to this hotel but will look for one in a similar location.

Room Tip: Don't choose a twin room - doubles looked much bigger.

“A tiny little gem right in the heart of Historic Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

Hotel Doge was a tiny little hotel right in the Heart of the Historic District of Rome, within walking distance to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and so much more.
We stayed in a double room, which had a double bed, matching draperies and bedspread, clean 4 piece bath including: toilet, bidette, shower and sink. The towels looked like huge dishtowels, but really did an excellent job of drying off after a shower. Basic toiletries were provides. Breakfast was continental: bread, butter and spreads, croissants, coffee, hot chocolate, and juice. This was much appreciated!
Our daughters stayed in a room with 3 twin beds. Their room was old and rather shabby - perhaps it could use a little rennovation - but it was clean. We did notice workers with supplies working on some of the rooms.
Our hotel was quite old and actually had 2 name plaques on it - Hotel Doge and Hotel Florence, perhaps there is a difference in the rooms in each of the "2" hotels.
Point to note - be prepared to use the stairs. There is a lift - I think it went up 2 floors, but it can only hold 1 person and 1 large suitcase!
Hotel staff was helpful, and courteous. They provided us with a city map, gave us directions, ordered us a taxi when we were leaving, and held our bags until we departed.
Excellent value for the price we paid! Would definately stay there again!

Room Tip: If you cannot take the stairs, perhaps ask for a room near the ground floor.

“Good location.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

We stayed at the hotel Doge in Rome for 4 days. The hotel is in need of a complete facelift or major renno! The reception staff were lovely and helpful. The breakfast staff were terrible, everything was too much trouble! They expected you to eat off the paper place mats. I always asked for a bread and butter plate. The rooms were grubby and our linen wasnt changed for the 4 days we were there, they also have the worst towels..like tea towels. I dont know if they work short staffed or what. The one saving grace for this establishment is the location it is fabulous close to everything. W & D

Room Tip: maybe ask to see the room before you accept what they give you.

“Great Location in Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

The Hotel Doge (which also includes Hotel Firenze - we couldn't figure out the difference) was very conveniently located to many of the tourist attractions in Rome and to the Metro. We have a great stay and the staff was very helpful and friendly.
