“Vatican Holiday B&B, Rome”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

We had a great time at the Vatican Holiday B&B - once we found it!! It took us two hours walking up and down Via Andrea Doria and when we eventually found it, there was simply a tiny plaque on the wall to say the name of the B&B. My tip is to look at the numbers of the properties on the street and go by that. We arrived at the main accommodation and were told that we would be staying at the other accommodation a few streets away (Viale Giulio Cesare). We arrived there and found that it was right next to a metro stop so was actually much better. The issues we found were:
- the toilet took forever to refill once it was flushed
- the shower sprayed out from the sides and not out of the actual proper nozzle so wasnt great
- the breakfast was horrid (a chocolate orange/marmalade/lemon curd croissant and a drink)
- the credit card machine did not work at our accommodation (at Viale Giulio Cesare) so we had to go to the other main accommodation on the morning of our departure to use the card machine there which was an added stress that should have been prevented.
Location however, makes up for these annoyances.

“Cheap and cheerful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

The B&B is within walking distance of vatican city and two metro stations - Ottaviano and Cipro. Outside, the sign for the hotel is hard to see as it is actually on the wall. The B&B is an apt. turned into very small rooms. Our room was right next to the entrance and opposite the reception area and we didn't sleep well because we could hear people coming in and out and talking to the owner. The room itself was very clean and we had 2 single beds but the bathroom was tiny. The shower was powerful with hot hot water but you couldn't really move in it. I think this B&B is fine if you're a single traveller or you are with a mate and are on a budget. I don't think it's suitable for couples due to room size. Breakfast is included but you have to go to Angel Cafe a few doors down. We didn't find it a hassle and if you get there earlyish then you can get more of a choice with the cornetti. Italian breakfast consists of coffee and a cornetto, which is a croissant filled with jam, cream or nutella. If you want toast and tea then you should really book into a proper hotel. We also got a glass of juice. The nearest metro to use for this B&B is Cipro and it's only a few stops to get to the centre and the sights are all within walking distance, Piazza Di Popolo, Spanish steps, shopping, Fontana Di Trevi, Piazza Di Navona, Pantheon and Piazza Di Venezia. You don't need a 3 day metro pass as it's 11euros. One journey wherever you go is 1euro. There's a really nice place to eat on Via del Corso 515 (main shopping street) called Taverna Del Corso. It's near Piazza Del Popolo. I wouldn't book a tour guide to the vatican with The Treasure Tours on Via Vespasiano (near metro Ottaviano) as they charged us 40 euros and said that we could have an audience with the pope but this didn't happen. The guide later told me that this is the agencies idea as a marketing/selling tool. There's no way to have an audience with the pope unless you get tickets from the vatican itself or you get there early every Wednesday. We were disappointed and the guide didn't take us around the cathedral just the sistine chapel. If you do go on a Wednesday be prepared for the crowds as the Pope holds a mass every week.

“VaticanHolidays, thank you for your thoughtfulness!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

Essentially old and modest accommodation, very clean, convenient and quietly located with a very big and comfortable bed.The room had a fridge which was very useful. The greatest asset to this accommodation was Michael who met us when we arrived.I had read the negative comments about access after hours and had e mailed prior to arrival. It was my error that we did not arrive at the newly given address, but no problems as Michael appeared, walked us to the alternate address 700m away and gave us all the information we needed to access the metro, where and how to access the important sites and many money saving suggestions.I would strongly recommend as excellent value for money and for the negative comments read, the young men were very courteous and thoughtful, so were you too?24 hr phone access for help was also available, but would only suggest if you are capable independent travelers, not pampered tourists.

Room Tip: Our location was close to the Ottaviano metro stop, but within a courtyard enclosure typical of priv...

“Good enough to stay again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

Good points:
1) situated not too far from Vatican, so you can manage to go there by walking
2) close to metro (underground) station
3) daily market of fresh fruits & vegetables on pavement
4) nice helping staff
5) renovated rooms interior
Bad points:
1) far from historic center of Rome
2) breakfast is composed of a hot drink, a juice (small can) and some factory-made jam or honey
3) sattelite TV not working correctly
4) there are no elevators and you should take your baggage upstairs with you

“Excellent value and nice room for a fantastic location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2011

We arrived around lunchtime and had no problem finding the apartment block door & buzzer on Via Andrea Doria, as all the doors/houses are numbered. Although we had to move to the 2nd apartment block on Viale Giulio Cesare (about a 5min walk with luggage), it's actually a great spot right next to a subway stop and sooo close to the Vatican City + Museum. We were very happy.

The rooms look recently renovated, are modern, quiet and comfortable, but small. The air conditioning works a treat in the small space! Very good! Sky tv channels with many English channels to choose from was also a nice bonus!

The breakfast is just a pastry, coffee and glass of juice (served in the cafe downstairs)... But this is what they all eat in Italy, France, and much of Europe, so for them it's normal (for us, not so much). Luckily there are plently of little shops, supermarkets, and restaurants close by if you want to buy additional or alternative breakfast items.

We found our apartment block was very conveniently located and great value for money.
