After reading several posts about hotels and B&B's in Rome I thought I would write to tell people about my experiences. My wife and I travel to Rome every summer and are always looking for a clean yet inexpensive good deal. Some friends of ours suggested we look for a place outside of the busy, often noisy and largely overpriced centre of Rome. We looked at several guides including an Agritourism book which opened our eyes to a lot of options. After asking around we were turned on to the bed and breakfast association for Lazio (the region containing Rome).
During our last visit to Rome we stayed at a really clean but rustic B&B in Prima Porta in the north outskirts of Rome called Le Ghiande (The Acorns). A very clean (looked to be brand new) couple of rooms in an old hilltop Villa at half the price of many other places we found around Rome. The family was very nice and helpful, gave us a ride to the train station (about 1.5-2km) and even offered to pick us up after our long day touring around the city. The train cost 1 euro each way and took about 20 minutes to get from Prima Porta to Piazzale Flaminia and Piazza del Popolo (Centre of Town).
I highly recommend B&B Le Ghiande and its forrest like surroundings for a peaceful rest at a huge savings...
