Friendly, comfortable and well worth the price are how we’d sum up the First Floor B&B.
On arrival at First Floor we had a warm welcome from the owner, Piero, who showed us to our en-suite room which was brightly painted and spotlessly clean. The double bed was a pleasant surprise in comparison to the other European destinations we’ve visited where the “double” consists of two twin beds pushed together.
There was a small balcony which would be a nice place to have breakfast, once the building work opposite has finished, but watch out for the plants being watered on the floor above, otherwise you might end up having an impromptu shower!
Breakfast was the same each day juice, toast and delicious “saccottini” (Italian croissants) but Piero did offer to provide an alternative, should we have wanted. As breakfast is self-service, early starts (or lie-ins!) are no problem. On the subject of flexibility you are given a set of keys on arrival at the B&B which means you can come and go as you please without being restricted by a curfew.
The B&B has a communal area with free internet access, maps and leaflets but a far better source of information are Piero and his brother Max who are happy to suggest places to visit or eat (we’d recommend going to the Kosher bakery for cheesecake!)
Location wise the First Floor might not be for everyone as it’s in a quiet residential district out of the centre, but we didn’t mind the 5 min stroll to Magliana metro station (follow the directions on the B&B’s website and you can’t go wrong) and from there it’s only 10mins on the tube to the main tourist sites e.g. the Colosseum.
All in all, we really enjoyed our stay at First Floor. We’d definitely recommend it and would stay there again if we visit Rome in the future.
