“Fantastic accommodation in Roma”

My sister and I have stayed here three times now on two different trips to Italy and we can only recommend them. The nuns are lovely (dont speak any English but they work hard to overcome that with us!) and the rooms are spotless and cleaned daily. The convent is extremely well located for anyone interested in the Vatican but Prati is also a great area to explore (not touristy, good restaurants shopping and coffee with the Romans). We have paid about $65 euros for a double room and bathroom on each trip. Highly recommend it. The only disadavantage of staying in Vaticano is that you need to 'commute' to get to the non-Vatican tourist spots but that forces you to get familiar with buses and walk. Hardly a serious problem!

“Wow! Amazing stay in Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 March 2009

I was delighted by this place. First, it's almost directly across the street from the Vatican Museums entrance, which was very handy. You can walk to the Metro in five minutes or so. Second, the rooms was modern, clean, and comfortable. Third, the price is terrific.

When I arrived, a nun right out of central casting welcomed me at the desk. She spoke no English, and I speak no Italian. However, I had my printout of our email exchange arranging my stay, so we had no trouble working things out. She showed me the guest house, vending machines, TV room, and my room. Outside the guest house is a flower bed and some palm trees. It's really lovely looking.

The place is spotlessly clean, and my room had a private bath (with a small shower). As I said, there are vending machines in a common room to dispense coffee, water, and snacks. There are a few tables where you could bring take-out food to eat. No breakfast is served here.

When you check in, you're given a key to an outside gate and to your room. (This is not always common in Italian hotels, when you often have to leave the key at the front desk each time you leave). Here you can come and go on your own, though the house rules indicate a midnight curfew. There are other rules as well, though I didn't find them onerous.

My bed was comfortable, though I slept on my fleece jacket instead of the provided pillow because it was so thick. If you like big pillows, you'll be all set. The fixtures and furnishings were modern and well kept. Windows are double glazed, though I opened mine a bit at night. With the window closed, I found the room to be too quiet!

There's no Internet, though there are Internet cafes just a couple of minutes away. If you are looking for bargain lodgings in Rome, I can't imagine you'd do better than this. Sorry I didn't take more photos of my room and so forth -- I hadn't noticed there weren't any others posted here.

“Great budget location next to the Vatican and near metro!”

Rome can be expensive, but here you are right next to the Vatican (right across the entrance to the Vatican museums), near the metro and buses to get around in Rome at a budget price. Don't be scared that it's a convent, they are super nice/friendly nuns, they only speak Italian, so good luck with your reservation! There is a separate building dedicated only for the "hotel" part. Both men and women are welcome, I styed with my husband. It's quiet, clean, has a terrace, you get your own key so you can go as you please.
