“Good value for money”

I was really worried about this hotel having read previous reviews on TripAdvisor. However, I was pleasantly surprised by Hotel Max. Admittedly the common areas shared with other hotels were not the greatest, but the lift was in good working order and did not smell.

The rooms provided were clean and of a good size - one point though - four bedded rooms are not suitable for adults - there should be no more than three to a room. The bathrooms were good and clean towels provided every day.

Although the breakfasts were wholesome, they did become a little boring - I would have like a little more variety.

The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful.

If you are taking a group of undergraduates to Rome I would recommend Hotel Max.

Room Tip: Be the group leader!!!!!

“Not terrible.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 April 2011

Not as bad as a lot of the other reviews state. Room sizes are small, our shower room was also small. There was a lot of traffic noise but that was to be expected as it was so close to the Termini. Good location, easy to walk to the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain etc. Breakfast was not good, just a roll and jam, there are supermarkets just down the street though. Would reccomend for no frills, budget hotel.

“Great location and condition for the price”

We visit Rome in the middle of February ( 4 people) and stayed 3 night at MAX Hotel. The Hotel is a small one, at the 3rd floor of a building with several hotels. The stairs and the elevator is not 100% clean but that didn't bother us that much.

The location is perfect- near Termini Station and its easy to get anywhere :).

The hotel room was perfectly clean so was the toilet. There was a TV, fridge and personal safe in every room so you can leave your valuables there. The towels were changed every day.

The stuff was really nice to us. In the first day we arrived at the Hotel at 11:00 am and they give us our rooms (even though the check-in was at 1:00 pm ). Last day we had our plane at 10:00 pm and they let us live our luggage there all day long.

There is a bag thing though: the coffee at the Hotel is really bad. :)

PS: the hotel is not hard to find if you send 10 minutes on the internet before the trip to search for the location.

“The worst experience in my life”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2011

It was almost impossible to find the place. The stairs and the elevator were very dirty. The halls of the hotel smelled very bad because the staff bathroom was open and so near to our room. We booked one room for four persons and the just but four beds one really close to the other, I think it was a room for two adapted for four. I strongly discourage to don't book this place.

“Disgusting - don't stay here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2010

Hotel Max in a word....Disgusting! It is located near the main train station - but that being said the location is very seedy . Trying to find Hotel Max is very hard too, it is located in a building with different hotels on different levels. So the front door does not say Hotel Max very clearly - so look carefully. There is a lift there, but it is very small and rickety and I would hate to be stuck there. Sometimes the liff does not come at all - then you have to use the stairs! And that is another nightmare itself - the stairs are dirty, littered by cigarrette butts, garbage - and i even found a filthy towel there. The staff barely speak english - so don't try and ask for directions. The rooms are dingy and you feel scared walking in the corridor which is dark and protected from the stairway from hell by a door that is rarely closed (even though you are supposed to) so who knows who will be waiting there for you. The rooms appear to be nice, but the toilet leaked, so there was water all over the floor. The television is apparently just for decoration - it does not work at all. The rooms do have a safe (can be used for free) which is a bonus in Rome. Each day the cleaning lady gave us one less towel - and we ended up having to ask for a hand towel. The shower is tiny - European showers apparently are - but no where else we stayed was this small. If you are a large person - you probably won't fit in the shower - awful but true - and even if you are as thin as a rake - your elbows will have bruises from hitting the side of the shower. Breakfast is included - but i prefer to think of it as amunition - if you get mugged, a few of these breadrolls would make great projectiles! They are so hard! And the coffee - well don't even go there. They provide a few jams for the breadrolls but these were awful. So don't think because breakfast included, you will actually get breakfast - budget for breakfast outside the hotel. All this being said - it is a budget hotel - so expect budget conditions - but I really think there are better options out there for comparable prices. I know Rome is such a city where you only want to sleep in your room (because there is so much to see), but really one needs some standard there. Good thing about it, it really makes you appreciate your home. I would never stay there again and perhaps only recommend it to my worst enemy.
