“Hotels were changed from Matisse B&B to Matrisse Colosseum - Old Switch and Bait Tactics”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2010

After reading all the good reviews on Trip Advisor,I booked an hotel for Nov 28, 2010 for 1 night at Matisse B&B. We arrived at 7PM and Roberto came down and told me that the Matisse B&B was shut down by the government temporary for a few months and the website automatically booked us and he was moving me to a sister Hotel. Matisse Colosseum., He took us in a cab to the new hotel. It was not very nice. the front window handle was broken, the bed covers looked stained, no TV, No Wi Fi, No Refrigerator. The Breakfast stuff looks like things he got from a 99 cent store. Roberto told me that the normal price of the hotel room at 120 euros and that he would charge us the original rate we paid at B&B which was 80 Euros. he told me not to ask the other people how much they paid since they might get jealous so we had a great deal. Since it was already 8 PM, we were tired and we had a early flight the next day and didn't know any other hotels. I was a bit hesitant but in the end, we stayed but wished we stayed somewhere else nicer.

If you do book with him, please don't let him switch hotels on you. I read other reviews and he did the same switcharoo with them as well. At least he helped us book a taxi to the airport. We stayed at the La Piccola for the 3 nights and it was a very nice hotel, there are much nicer B&B to stay in Rome!

“Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2010

Matisse Coloseum is a really great place if you're looking for an hotel or bed & breakfast in the middle of Rome. It's not to luxurious but who needs that anyway when you're all day walking in the city. For instance: the Coloseum and the Forum are just around the corner. Roberto was really nice to us, we could even pick our own room. There's a free buffet/breakfast and drinks in the frigidaire all day. So we would really recommend it for people who want to explore Rome.

Greetings Danny & Sjors Klaassen

“This was my 5th stay at Matisse.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2010

This was my 5th stay at Matisse. Why it plunges you into the atmosphere and flavour of Rome. The accommodation adds to the atmosphere clean, safe, and spacious, within walking distance to Rome’s great monuments like the Colosseum. You will find your self surrounded by Rome’s ancient history. You’re located in the centre of Rome and just a stones throw from great Cafes and restaurants. Just step out the door and live and feel Rome as the Romans did, walk through the Forum, taking in the Roman market and let the mind experience life as it once was. Yes Matisse is located in a great position and gives you easy access to explore Rome. I really enjoyed my stay at Matisse and will again soon.

“Roberto went above and beyond his call of duty!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2010

Best location imaginable! We walked everywhere except TO the Vatican (it was raining and we walked home) and Roberto called us a taxi, and even ran out and bought us umbrellas! When we first arrived I had read about a few restaurants and Roberto called and made us reservations, as well as suggested some good pizza and gelati in the area. A few of the rooms are on the street side, so a little noisy, which was manageable with a lot of walking in the day (we were exhausted by night). When we booked we had wanted to stay at the other Matisse B&B, but we were traveling with someone in a wheelchair and after hearing this Roberto made arrangements for us to switch to the more accessible location.... it still wasn't very accessible, but not much is in Rome and we made it work.
I strongly recommend this place as Roberto's assistance was invaluable and really made our trip fantastic.
PS if you stay here eat at La Taverna dei Fori Imperiali but make reservations! The food was incredible, reasonable priced and great service....and we watched 22 people get turned down because they didn't have reservations!

“lived up to expectation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2009

really good value for money accomadation (E90for 2 night for 2 of us. They lik cash on arrival). More like a 6 bedroomed appartment than hotel, was on 1st floor of large old building and near too all the sights around the Roman forum and colosseum . Room was plain ,clean and comfortable with ensuite (room 22). It had full lengh window which opened fully and overlooked via Cavour(used ear pluggs so didnt get woken too early). Had 2 single beds which were compact but comfy. It had a help your self 24hr. breakfast bar in a comunal area which was great when you got back from sight seeing hungry. Didn't see any staff during our 2 night stay but they gave us their tel. no. on arrival and told us to ring or leave a note in the message book if we needed anything - we didn't. 2 good resteraunts near by Osteraria da Nerone, via Delle Terme Di Ditto, the other at top of Via Serpenti.
