“Wonderful place to stay in Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2007

My wife and I just returned from a trip to Europe that included a four day stop in Rome. We stayed at the Hotel Laura, and were very pleased with virtually every aspect of our stay. The front desk staff (Nora during the day, and Mario at night) were very friendly and helpful to us. The room was comfortable and in great order, and even included a little refrigerator with water, soft drinks, and beer that didn't cost much more than buying them at the store. It was a small room, but that is fairly standard in Europe so as an American one just has to adjust to that characteristic. At the price we paid (September 07) of 80 Euros/night, we thought it was an excellent value.

While it would have been nice for the breakfast to include something other than croissants, cereal, bread and coffee, it was enough food to get us started in the morning. As for the location, the other reviews are accurate, you walk out the front door and the steps down to the metro are literally right there. From there, it's a matter of minutes to the city center, as well as numerous tourist sites across central Rome (e.g., The Vatican, Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, the Colloseum, and many more).
Would we stay at this hotel again? Yes, without a doubt.

  • Liked — The quality of the room itself was solid.
  • Disliked — The smoke we'd occasionally smell from a room down the hall.

“Less than what you pay for”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2007

This hotel is located on the fourth floor of a building that is far from central Rome. We were aware that it was on the outskirts so this was not an issue for us. The subway is very cheap and easy to use and a station is located within steps of the hotel. There is also a taxi stand very close by. There are no good restaurants within walking distance, ditto for shopping.

The staff consisted of one man and one woman. The man was pleasant and is helpful if you can converse with him in italian. The woman is very rude and border line iignorant. I bit my tongue numerous times at her tone. We were advised not to use an iron in the room in a very irritating way. Also the wait for our room to be ready was made as uncomfortable as possible. No help with storing luggage while we waited, so we had to stand by our luggage and wait the two hours or lug it all with us.

The elevator is very small. It will hold one person and one piece of luggage or two people. So beware if travelling with luggage. The rooms are very small and the TV is tiny and only shows italian stations. There is no internet at the hotel and no cafe within walking distance. The rooms were moderately clean. Despite the claim to having air conditioning, it is turned off from noon until 2pm and then again at about 1 am until you request it turned back on in the morning.

All in all we knew we were skimping on the hotel in Rome in order to enjoy Cortona and Sorrento but we certainly received far less than what we expected. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and i will not be returning to it.

  • Liked — It was reasonably priced.
  • Disliked — The front desk lady was so rude i wanted to smack her.

“Great Place to Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 June 2007

I just got back from a short vacation to Rome and I stayed at Hotel Laura. It is right by Metro Bologna (Line B) and 3 stations from Termini. The staff was friendly and spoke a little English. The breakfast was the usual (coffee, juice, bread, butter, cheese etc). The room was comfortable and had an air conditioner (you might have to pay $10 or more per night at some places).

If you land in Ciampino, get the return service offered by TerraVision. They have a good A/C coach bus and that makes the 30 min ride from Ciampino to Termini comfortable. It costs about 14 euros for a round trip. It is worth it.

Overall, this place is a good choice for a vacation in Rome.

“Liked Laura hotel in Rome”

Me and my husband stayed in Laura hotel for 6 nights and we found it really convenient. It was strategically placed in front on the metro entrance and within 10 minutes, we were downtown to the main attractions. At breakfast, the coffee was delicous. The staff didn't speak a lot of english but they were nice. The room was larger than I thought it would be (for a room in europe I mean...), it was clean and the bed was comfortable.

It was a good value for the price we paid. I would recommend this hotel.

“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2007

I stayed there April 21-30, 2006 and it was very convenient.
The metro entrance is located right downstairs, and after long day of walking around rome, there is a true appreciation of that metro stop!
The train stops are fast and you get to the downtown rome quickly. Termini station interchange entrance closes around 9pm though. The Buses run later.
The breakfast is basic, but there is lots of pizza places, and a wonderful cafe just outside. I had my chocolate gelato fix every evening at the cafe across the street.
The room was clean, the sheets and bed was fine, the shower was small but that's europe. The bathroom itself has adequate space. The lift is extremely small so i walked up the stairs to fourth floor. It wasn't a major issue for me.
The staff spoke enough english and was pleasant.
Print out the rome metro map before you leave for rome and you can plan your vacation around the metro stops.
For the price, this place was convenient, and worth it.
I enjoyed my stay and would stay there again.
