“Very nice and good value!”

We really wanted to get away from London for a long weekend, and no better place to go than to Rome. We contacted the hotel directly, they speak good English, but it helped that my mum is Italian. Hotel is situated on the 4th and 5th floors of the building (there is a lift). It's fantastic that the hotel is literally 10 steps from the entrance to Bologna Metro. Great after a long day queuing and walking in the centre of Rome (which is easy access via Line B from the hotel, or changing to Line A from Termini). You get bus and train tickets (same thing) from the little tobacco shops (there is one a few yards to the left of the hotel entrance. 1 euro for a single, 2 euros for a return (each single ticket lasts 75 mins once you put it through the machines on the buses and trains so you can travel anywhere in that time, the return is a seperate ticket again lasting 75 mins).
Rooms are very nice, great value for money. If you can, get a room which isn't facing the street, as Rome comes alive after 11pm and they are up very early, so you might be woken by traffic if you are not a heavy sleeper.
Rooms are all pretty similar other than that. If you need extra pillows, ask at reception. Bathrooms are a decent size with a huge sink, and double bed is a nice size too. Everytime you leave the hotel, leave your key at reception, it is 24 hours and when the front door is closed just buzz in and they will open the door for you.
The only disappointing part was the breakfast. Just croissants, bread, spreads and coffees.
The restaurants around this hotel are fantastic, tastes just like my mum's home cooked food. The person on reception will recommend them to you if you ask. There were at lest three that were superb and all within 2 minutes walking distance from the hotel.
A tip though, if you are sightseeing or exploring the centre of Rome, please don't go to any of the restaurants near the attractions as the food is so bad, and so expensive, unless you've been recommended by someone you know. Don't listen to any well dressed men on the streets promoting restaurants and home cooked food as it is a lie - we were duped by this. Best to get a light lunch in a pizzeria and have a decent meal near the hotel in the evening.
Get a taxi to and from the airport as the Metro gets so packced it's worse than London tubes, so lugging suitcases may be a problem. Also watch your bags, pick pockets are rife in Rome and on the Metro.
Would definitely recommend the hotel, given the value for money, the proximity to the Metro and they are very helpful.

“nice little place”

i have stayed in this hotel a couple of times. Both times with international friends who came in Italy to visit me.
Hotel Laura is located in a very good spot, in the north eastern part of Rome. The sunway station is just in front of the hotel. As many small hotels/pensioni in Rome (and in Italy), hotel Laura in located at the 4th (or 5th- I can't remember now) floor of a building. The hotel has the whole floor. Rooms are very clean and the forniture is pretty new. They are not very big though.
The staff is quite helpful and speaks good English. The free breakfast is ok- a little poor....but their cappucino is great!
I will keep coming back to this hotel in the future.

“Close to metro-odd but good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2006

My husband and I use trip advisor all the time and when we saw that there were no postings for this hotel we decided to be the guinea pigs and try it out. We went April 2006 right before Easter. Our travel agent picked it because it was supposed to be good for public transit but knew nothing about it. Well here it goes. You take the metro to the Bologna Square stop and walk up the stairs and poof you're on the steps of the hotel. Very convenient. You may need to get buzzed into the hotel depending on when you arrive. We arrived quite early in the morning and they let us check in. The elevators as they are in many European cities can only hold one person with luggage at a time and a very tight two people without luggage. The hotel is up four floors in what is also an office building. The area is very residential and has a bank and grocery/ eat in deli around the corner. The day staff were not very friendly but they did speak English. Breakfast is included but is pieces of bread and packaged croissants with coffee. The rooms have two single beds pushed together and ours had a lovely courtyard view. The marble bathroom is spacious. Our only two issues that we had was that while they make up the room daily sheets are not changed. The second would be the wake up call. The night staff you see is very friendly but they do not speak English very well. After a long struggle explaining we needed a 3am wake up call he said okay. At 3:30 am the phone rang and he said "Hello, wake up, it's late." Thank goodness we had waken up on our own so it was a little humourous but some this may have been a big issue. All in all very reasonably priced.
