“Stay in hotel Laura”

When we arrived at the hotel it was at the fourth floor of an old building that was actually not mentioned anywhere at the web site. There was an old, slow and small elevator for maximum four persons. If you have more luggage you, have to make more courses. If your choice is this this hotel it is not bad idea to start learn Italian, because the personal does not speak English (except one lady).
The room was much smaller than it looked on photos. It was non-smoking but from time to time we could feel tobacco smoke getting in through the air-conditioning. In the bathroom, there was just 1 towel per person, small towels for feet and face were not included. Also, the shower cabin's door could not close to the end and the drainage of the water was extremely slow, so that one can not have a proper shower.
The breakfast consisted of a minor amount of items, never including any meat or fruits.
When we wanted to pay our bill with a card, the lady at the reception gave us a receipt saying that the amount in our card was insufficient. When we rang our bank they told us that the transaction was successful and the money is withdrawn by the hotel ( they told us the amount which they would not know), and one minute later there was a trial for a second transaction that failed because the amount was insufficient for it.
We kindly explained to the lady what our bank is saying, supposing that a mistake has happened. She became furious and arrogant. We had to pay in cash for a second time.
We will warn all friends and family going to Rome not to use this hotel.

“reasonable good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 March 2008

The hotel is on the steps of the metro Bologna station and near the 62 bus which covers much of central Rome.
The room and breakfast were reasonable but several small things remained broken after several reminders.
Staff was pleasant though we struggled with the English

“Great Hotel - Brilliant Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2007

My girlfriend and I stayed in this hotel and it was great. The location is by far the best attribute - only 5 metro stops(6/7mins) from the colosseum. The metro is literally outside your door (no noise thankfully)

The hotel has plenty of charm and is very homely. It is located in a building which it occupies the 4 & 5th floor. You step out of the lift and you walk into the hotel lobby.

The hotel is very safe and secure - the external door is locked at night (you have to buzz reception to enter)

The only problem I had with the hotel was the lack of a restaurant - although there are plenty around both walking and short metro.

To locate this hotel from the Termini station - there are 2 metros, take the Blue one(the one with colosseum) - get off on the Bologna stop and walk up the steps & you will be at hotel laura

I would stay here again without a doubt.

“Wonderful place to stay in Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2007

My wife and I just returned from a trip to Europe that included a four day stop in Rome. We stayed at the Hotel Laura, and were very pleased with virtually every aspect of our stay. The front desk staff (Nora during the day, and Mario at night) were very friendly and helpful to us. The room was comfortable and in great order, and even included a little refrigerator with water, soft drinks, and beer that didn't cost much more than buying them at the store. It was a small room, but that is fairly standard in Europe so as an American one just has to adjust to that characteristic. At the price we paid (September 07) of 80 Euros/night, we thought it was an excellent value.

While it would have been nice for the breakfast to include something other than croissants, cereal, bread and coffee, it was enough food to get us started in the morning. As for the location, the other reviews are accurate, you walk out the front door and the steps down to the metro are literally right there. From there, it's a matter of minutes to the city center, as well as numerous tourist sites across central Rome (e.g., The Vatican, Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, the Colloseum, and many more).
Would we stay at this hotel again? Yes, without a doubt.

  • Liked — The quality of the room itself was solid.
  • Disliked — The smoke we'd occasionally smell from a room down the hall.

“Less than what you pay for”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2007

This hotel is located on the fourth floor of a building that is far from central Rome. We were aware that it was on the outskirts so this was not an issue for us. The subway is very cheap and easy to use and a station is located within steps of the hotel. There is also a taxi stand very close by. There are no good restaurants within walking distance, ditto for shopping.

The staff consisted of one man and one woman. The man was pleasant and is helpful if you can converse with him in italian. The woman is very rude and border line iignorant. I bit my tongue numerous times at her tone. We were advised not to use an iron in the room in a very irritating way. Also the wait for our room to be ready was made as uncomfortable as possible. No help with storing luggage while we waited, so we had to stand by our luggage and wait the two hours or lug it all with us.

The elevator is very small. It will hold one person and one piece of luggage or two people. So beware if travelling with luggage. The rooms are very small and the TV is tiny and only shows italian stations. There is no internet at the hotel and no cafe within walking distance. The rooms were moderately clean. Despite the claim to having air conditioning, it is turned off from noon until 2pm and then again at about 1 am until you request it turned back on in the morning.

All in all we knew we were skimping on the hotel in Rome in order to enjoy Cortona and Sorrento but we certainly received far less than what we expected. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and i will not be returning to it.

  • Liked — It was reasonably priced.
  • Disliked — The front desk lady was so rude i wanted to smack her.
