“Great value for the money!”

I stayed at Chaplin B&B from July 10 2011 to July 17 2011. This was pretty much the hottest week of the summer in Rome, so I was worried about staying at a hostel with no A/C. It really wasn't too bad though. Make sure you keep the shutters closed during the day and your room will not get too hot.

I stayed in the single room. There was a lock on the door (there are locks on all the doors). The bed was not the most comfortable thing in the world but it was adequate. The room was cleaned immaculately every day I was there. Rene (the host) wasn't around much but he was extremely friendly when I did see him. Breakfast is cold cereal, jam & toast, and coffee/tea, so don't be expecting eggs, bacon & sausage when you wake up!

Overall it was a great deal for 40 euros/night during the high tourist season. Also there is now WIRELESS INTERNET ACCESS available at the hostel. Rene installed it the second day I was there.

Room Tip: The room in the back of the apartment tends to be cooler during the summer months.

“"A home away from home!"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

Chaplin's Bed and Breakfast was the closest thing to a home away from home. We had an incredibly pleasant stay, with all the privacy we could spare. Because it is so close to the Termini station, it was perfect to move around the city. Also, it is at a walking distance from mostly everything you need to see in Rome, if you prefer to use your feet to get around. René - the owner - was also very good in giving us all the necessary directions and tips, as how to get around, which buses to take, shuttle prices, best restaurants... The works. We will absolutly recomend this B&B to anyone who wishes to stay in Rome with a budget. Some thought though... Air conditioning would be a perfect aquisition for the B&B bedrooms, at least for summer.

Room Tip: Very confortable beds, good closets to store your clothes, excelent cleaning service. No AC...

“Great location and helpful host”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2009

We were looking for accommodation close to the main railway station. The Chaplin B&B really fits the bill - just a couple of minutes walk. Our host Rene gave us some great tips for getting around Rome, good places to eat and how to beat the endless cues at the Colosseum. We were lucky enough to have the run of the place so no problem with the shared bathroom. Breakfast was adequate and set us up well for the day. Good value.

“Was quite good, except for the shared bathroom”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2009

It was quite all right, except that there is only one bathroom in the flat. Renee was nice and friendly but he wasn't around most of the time. Breakfast is all right.

  • Liked — It was cheap and had a great location.
  • Disliked — The shared bathroom

“On the hub of Rome's public transport, clean, comfortable, practical advice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2008

This B&B is superbly located for anyone visiting Rome, who is using public transport and whose requirements are practical. If you want clean, comfortable, friendly, handy, relaxed, it's all here, and more. It's a cross between an apartment and a hostel. The neighbourhood is "littered" with great eateries, and Rene (the proprietor) is successfully generous with recommendations for efficiently "touring" Rome (public transport, lesser-known sights, restaurants etc). We went to Naples in the middle of our stay in Chaplin and Rene was more than happy to let us store our bulk luggage so that we could do Naples "light". We found that Rene thoughtfully considered each of our of requests and his responses drew on his own considerable experience as a traveler. Highly recommended!
