“ROME''S BEST KEPT SECRET”

When we initially saw the ad for this campground we snickered and said that we would never go to ROME to stay at a trailer park. At the end of our cruise, we had two more days in Rome and essentially no money left. our group of 7 booked 3 bungalows for the 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The bungalows were clean and sufficient for our needs. The air worked well and the room had a fridge, which was great for us. The thing that I would go back for is the beauty of the place. the treetops formed a canopy over the campground that made it look like a fairytale forrest. There was a really cool ice cream shop on the grounds that served fabulous ice cream. The also have a restaurant that serves a variety of foods. Our group ages were from 14 to 80 and we all found something on the menu we liked. The busline was a short walk to the main street. We took the busline to the train station which took us to the city. it was a great adventure for us. When we got back we all sat outside at our picnic tables and took pictures and socialized. We all regretted that we had not stayed at Happy Camping Village at the beginning of our trip.

“Enjoyed our stay, quite remote though!”

We enjoyed our stay here, but we stayed here for four nights as an escape from the city, so we didn't want to go into Rome at all, we just wanted to stay around the campsite and relax. We stayed in a cabin. Please note, we booked through external website, and on the website it advised that there was a kitchenette - this was not the case, there was only a mini-fridge. I suggest you check the campsite's website for details of each type of room/cabin.

It's quite a long way from the city. From Rome Termini, you swap to metro (Line A to Battistini) to Flaminio, then catch a train to Prima Porta. Took us about an hour. Happy Village shuttle waits out the front of the station, and then it's a 5-10min drive.

SHUTTLE TIMETABLE
In the morning, the bus went into Prima Porta at 8.30, 10, and 11.30am. (Goes back to campsite from Prima Porta at 8.45, 10.15 and 11.45am)
Pick up from the station at 5pm, 7pm, 8.30pm, and 9.30pm. (Leaves the campsite to get there at 4.30, 6.30, 8 and 9pm)

Prima Porta is very small with two restaurants but no shops etc.

Campsite has a restaurant open from 6.30pm - 10.30pm (from 8EU - 19EU), a very very small supermarket (basics of ham, cheese, bread, milk, beer, toilet paper), which opens in the morning until 11.30am, then open from 4ish til 10.30pm.

Breakfast is offered in the morning for 3,50EU and consists of two bread rolls with jam and butter + coffee.

Pool closed from 10th October onwards due to weather.

No other supermarket in easy walking distance, it took us an hour to get to the closest one (there isn't one at Prima Porta). Without a car it can be very isolated here unless you take the shuttle into Rome.

Vending machines available at the campsite with sandwiches, snacks and coffee if you're desperate for something at lunch.

Wifi is available at designated internet points, and costs 6EU for 24 hours, or 3EU for 1 hour.

Laundry and dryer facilities available - 9EU for wash and dry, or 4,50EU each.

BBQ on site for use - free.

I wouldn't recommend staying here if you want to go into the city every day and see Rome (there are plenty of cheap hostels and pensiones closer to the action) - but I enjoyed Happy Village as a quiet place to relax.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a cabin with a full kitchen as cooking each night will save you money on the restauran...

“Wonderfull camping close to Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2011

We loved our stay in this campsite. It was the first time for us that we booked a mobilhome in a campsite. Rome is very busy and it was nice to come "home" in the evening and enjoy a nice meal in their good restaurant with friendly service.
It's really very quiet in the evening. One day we visited Rome, the other day we enjoyed staying at the swimming pool for about 5 days long.
Our mobilhome was very spacious and clean.
If you have a car, I advise to go with the car to Rome. We didn't had any difficultous to park the car and it was only 4€ for 8 hours! The shuttle service is ok but you need to take the train and the metro which are very dirty and crowdy!

“Not very happy village”

Due to a delayed flight my boyfriend and I arrived late in Rome, phoned our travel company who informed the so-called Happy Village that we would arrive between 11 and 12. When our taxi dropped us off in the middle of nowhere (the resort location) we soon became aware that there was no-one to let us in and indeed seemed to be no-one on site whatsoever. Having tried to call the hotel number repeatedly but to no avail we eventually crawled under a locked gate in search of a member of staff. We saw no signs of life whatsoever and the whole place felt deserted. We were then forced to spend the next 4 hours in the middle of the night standing in the cold trying to get hold of a taxi to take us back to Rome

“Great place for sightseeing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 April 2010

Just came back from a 4 night stay, our flight landed at 8pm and we were going to get the train to Termini, then the metro to Flaminio (then another metro to Prima Porta) but ended up getting a ShuttleBus> approached by a guy in the airport saying 15 euros each to our hotel> was a bit dubious at first but turned out to be ok, though not sure if it was a real company or not. Paid another 10 euros as it was 15 km outside of Rome. Was lucky as may not have been able to get to the camp site otherwise!

Our bungalow was exactly what you need for a short break, bed, bathroom, tv and a heater/aircon system. Only english channel is CNN but dont really need to watch tv!

I would advise that if you want to go out in the evening, this isnt the place to stay, the last bus (run free by Happy Camping) is at 10.30pm from Prima Porta station, and the only way to get back is to get a taxi from Rome which is at least 40 euros.(There are no taxis at Prima Porta, they come out of rome)

If you just want to sightsee all day, then this is a great place, it takes 18minutes on the metro which is only a euro and is valid for 75 minutes so you can use it on the bus once you get into rome too!
The food in the restaurant was decent and not too expensive for pizza or pasta. Wine was nice and pretty cheap.
The staff in the restaurant were friendly as was the bus driver, didnt really see any of the others as didnt have any problems or anything.
The free shuttle bus runs regularly, 9, 10 & 11am to the station and 5, 7, 8 &10.30 pm back to the camp site.
We got to the station early a couple of times and there was a bus to pick us up outisde of these hours, which was great as would have had to wait about 2 hours otherwise. Dont expect this though, as we did arrive at Prima Porta at 5.15 once and had to wait until 7 to get picked up!

Overall, good place
Bad points: didnt have our bungalow cleaned for the duration of our stay
cant go out in the evening unless you return before 10.30
