“Trouble”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2011

This is an unattended apartment on the top floor of a residental buidling. The staff shows up to clean, set out breakfast and no one is there the rest of the time. 3 of the 4 rooms appear to be comfortable and will give you the sense of living like a Roman. You may have to have to call to have someone let you in when , so you you may have to wait on the street for someone to arrive. Be sure to have a cell phone with you.

BEWARE THE 4th ROOM that is reclaimed space in the attic of the building. If you chose to stay here, ask NOT to be given this room or go back to the train station and find another if it is offered.

Getting to the 4th room requires a trip up the stairs that are only 18 inches wide. Because of the open steps, you're fine going up, but coming down you have 5 inch tread. In addition to being narrow, I was never sure how securely they were fastened to the wall. The door to the room itself i20 inches wide and 5-1/2 feet tall. Because of a beam in front of the door, it is effectively 5 feet tall. The first time I went up to inspect the room, I hit my head on a beam coming out of the room door and nearly fell down the narrow stairs.

I'm not sure this is a safe sleeping space. Given the "Private" sign above the door, they may not be claiming it as a legal room. There are serious safety issues here. The only other egress is a small skylight that leads to the sloping roof. There were no fire alarms that I saw.

If getting to the room isn't bad enough, the bathroom for this unit is only 4 feet tall on the short end (the ceiling is sloped) where the toilet is located -- no one can stand upright within 4 feet of the toilet. The shower was tight, and I was unable to stand up fully in it. The bathroom was lit by one dim bulb, the wires of which were taped to the beam running across the bathroom. The water wavers between freezing and scalding with no warning.

These rooms are on the top floor of condo building with a disfunctional, tiny elevator (so up or down 150 steps every time you want to come or go). The elevator wasn't working for 3 days of our stay, we had to carry our bags down the stairs when leaving.

You will be required to pay in full prior to staying. I would go somewhere else.

Room Tip: AVOID THE room in the attic

“Nice place for independent types.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2010

My partner and I stayed here recently. Good place to stay if you plan on taking the metro around. We found walking from there to some of the sites, however, to be too much. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, and I liked the fact that we could feel independent. The availability of food and drinks at any time is great, and really helped when we got back late and exhausted at the end of the day. Note that the top room has a very narrow flight of steps leading to it, which might be difficult for people with heavy luggage. The area might steer away people who are not used to grittier urban life but we found the people around to be harmless. Just try to avoid the scamming taxi drivers at the station - we only took a taxi 3 times and each time they tried something on us.

Overall, this place is great if you want a cheap and clean place to stay. Would recommend.

“Great BB in the heart of Roma and close to the train station”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2010

Clean, safe, well kept, well located, Gaetano and Anna offer great service, etc.

Sleep quality is pretty good because of the windows, which are made to block sound. But hey, Roma is noisy, the Romans are noisy, its a lively place, so can't really complain.

Wouldn't hesitate to go back.

“Very Convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2010

The B&B is very close to the train station and you can easily walk there with no problems and easy to find.
Our room was cosy, not very big but very clean and comfortable.
The rooms were cleaned every day .
Breakfast is supplied in the meals area, with plenty of cereals, jams, fruit juice and bread to help yourself, you are able to use the fridge and the kitchen, although their is a stove there, he did say the we were not to use it... (don't know why)
The bathroom was very clean, the only problem we had was that we didn't have a plug (stopper) for the sink, he tried to get one but couldn't find one that fit, so we had to make to without for the week we stayed there.

There is a very old elevator....might put you off, but very safe & reliable , we didn't have a problem with it.... but it is very narrow and small..
We were also able to use the internet free of charge, that is there for all the residents to use.
There was a problem at one point with the net but Gaetano gave us his card and after he was called came to fix the problem the next day.

The building is very safe and you needn't worry about any of that sort of thing..
