“Great Appointment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2007

VERY basic! One day no hot water, shower cabin fell apart, impossible to read in the room, - even when you take off the lamp shades, too dark. The cleaners are supposed to act as receptionists in the morning ("reception is a chair and a small table), - but they don't speak English. Towels so thin you can almost see through them. Walls very thin, - any noise from the "hall" will wake you up. Wouldn't stay there again. Not worth 110 euro a night!

I don't understand why it should be a problem if "reception" is made of a small table and a chair; if the staff and the cleaners (who both speak english perfectly!) are always willing to help tourists; thus by giving information, answering all questions and reserving taxies and restaurants for them, even if this means staying longer than their turns... as far as BASIC is concerned, I'd like to make clear that all room facilities are clearly explained on all the web pages we appear on; and we NEVER declared to be a 5 star hotel.

“Cheap & Cheerful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2006

This is a cheap and cheerful hotel in Trastevere. All hotels seem to be expensive in Rome so even a 'pension house' like this seems expensive for what you get.
It was basic but clean.
Positives - Bros bar next door, friendly & helpful.
Short walk from Trastevere nightlife.
Good place to base for a few days sightseeing in Rome.
Hotel owner called us a taxi on check out and bought us an expresso while we waited.
Fast response when shower head broke.
Negatives - quite noisy first thing in the am with other guests doors banging.
Slightly unnerving to have no-one there at night.
No security in the room - although 3 locked doors are between you & the outside.
Having read the other reviews on this hotel I think they have changed their procedure for check in. My advice ALWAYS call ahead and confirm your booking and arrival time - (goes for any hotel).
Last point, beware Rome taxi drivers - agree a rough price up front.

“Avoid this hotel”

I made a confirmed reservation using the Residenza Belli's website two months in advance. But, upon my arrival on July 11th in Rome, I was told by the Residenza Belli that - I - had cancelled my reservation on July 9th, which I had not. Furthermore, I did not even have internet access that week in order to view the email in which they informed me that my reservation was cancelled. They then told me that there were no hotel rooms available in Rome and they made no attempt to help me find another hotel. In sum, they left me stranded and made NO attempts to rectify the situtation.

On Sunday July 9th, Italy won the World Cup. This is the same day my reservation was cancelled by the hotel. A co-incidence? Or a chance for them to profit from the new demand for rooms for the celebration in Rome? You be the judge.

“What and where??”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2006

First of all - I know nothing about rooms and accomodation at Residenza Belli. Rooms may be nice and well worth money - we never got to stay there.
I had booked 2 rooms for 4 nights. When we turned up the taxi driver had a hard time finding the property, and when we rang the bell no one opened. In the heat we started to ring other door bells, and in the end someone in another flat in the building opened the front doors for us. But we only came in to the hallway, and no one answered the bell here. After almost one hour the owner turned up, just to tell us he had some problems and there were no rooms for us. He had sendt me an e-mail - but I had been holydaying in Italy for almost two weeks, and only checked my e-mail now and then. He had rebooked us into a hostel close to Termini, but we had booked this place because we wanted to stay in Trastevere.

The owner drove us himself to the other property, and I think he was trying to do the best for us. We did not like this other place and only stayed there for one night, but that's another story.

Main complaines are that the property is hard to find, and that no one answered the bell when we tried to get in. I have read at Venere others complaining about the same.

“Great, if you can find the owner to let you in!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 May 2006

Told the person that owns the hotel that we would be late and arrive around 12am. Unfortunately, there's no one actually at the place at night, and no one has a phone number for the manager. So we waited 2 hours for the person to show up and actually let us in the hotel. (again, after confirming that we would arrive at 12am) After the bar closed next to the place we walked around for 2 hours in the dead of night searching for a hotel, finally we spent a sweaty night on a bed meant for one person.

Don't even risk it unless you have a backup plan. We seriously thought that we were going to have to sleep in a doorway.
