“Friendly and comfortable”

I'm so surprised to see the previous review. I booked Art Mary because it was recommended by a friend who loved it. There were two couples in our party and we all enjoyed our stay. The hotel was clean and the rooms light and airy and just like the photos. The staff made us very welcome and helped us with good recommendations and advice and a cup of coffee and a chat when we needed it. Being close to Termini station means you are able to get around Rome easily and although the area is not the best the local eateries were good. Thanks Agostino and Ella for starting our trip with a warm welcome.

“Roman ruin we didn't expect”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 April 2006

We arrived at the Art Mary B&B after a long trip from Florence by train. We didn't expect to see a Roman ruin so soon into our visit. We were scowled at by an elderly man (Mr Antonio I presume) and a cleaning maid who was his interpreter. She gave us the keys to the rooms which were small, dingy and dirty. They bear no resemblence to the photos on the internet. The old man started mumbling something about water. By the look of the place we thought he meant don't drink it but the lady interpreted that he was saying no hot showers until the repair man turned up sometime that day. There was no offer of an apology for the inconvenience or a reduced price from 110 euro per room. When we looked doubtful about staying, he threw his arms in the air and said if you no like, you go! So we left.

We were forced to look for rooms for 8 people on what we later found out was a 4 day long weekend. We ended up in a beautiful palazzo between the Vatican and the Colesseum for twice the price but it was worth it as we were closer to all the major sites and received excellent customer service and clean rooms. If you want to stay in the termini side of town, be prepared to pay to travel on public transport to get to sites and be prepared for poor value for money. If you still decide to stay in this area, steer clear of Art Mary B&B with Basil Fawlty Antonio for a host.

“Good transport location”

We stayed at the Art Mary B&B for 4 nights in April. A good location near to the Terminal station. The Bus staion is outside the train staion from where you can travel to where ever you want to go.
The terravission coach stops outside the station from Campio Airport. We paid 13.50euros for a return ticket from the airport.
100metres to the Art Mary.
Art mary is on the 5th floor of an old building. Other hotels in the same building.
A clean place but the room where we stayed could be better decorated. Antonio did say he was going to decorate sometime in August this year.
We paid 110 euros a night. Breakfast is coffee, orange juice, prepacked toast and cossaint. Thats it . would be nice if he had some meats, bread and cheese to offer.
We had to complain about cold water twice which was sorted out.
Like other reviews. Antonio is helpful to give advise. He can be tempramental at times.

So a basic clean place to stay if you are pushed for a place.

“Great hospitality, nice and clean room”

I had a pleasure to stay at Art Mary last weekend. It is located in a very convenient part of Rome with walking distance to Forum Romanum and Colloseum and close to Termini Railway Station which means that you have all sort of communication just behind the corner.

Immediately after we showed up at the reception desk we have been invited by very open minded and helpful Mr. Antonio and given all useful information for tourists: how to get to the interesting places, where to find the best and relatively not expensive restaurants, how to protect yourself against theft and many others useful tips.

We stayed at room number 10. Silent with comfortable bed and very clean shower room, plus TV and A/C. The only odd is that it has a window without city view. But if you stay at Rome you do not want to spend extra time on looking at the city from hotel room. Isn't it? You need the hotel just for sleeping, so silent room, comfort of the bed and clean bathroom are the most important factors to choose location for your stay.

Do not expect Art Mary to be the Ritz Hotel. But it is a perfect choice for inexpensive stay. I'd recommend it as the top rank for B&B (bed & breakfast) style locations.

Best regards,
Lucyna & Jaroslaw Kowalski

“Great Hotel, Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2006

My Family and I stayed in this hotel for 4 days. The Hotel is located about 100yds from the Termini station, making it easy to get anywhere in Rome. The Hotel was clean, and the rooms were very nice. A Coupon was provided for breakfast each day at a neighborhood cafe/bar. Breakfast consisted of a Pastry and a Drink (coffee/Juice). That was plenty for us.
The owner is a VERY pleasant older gentleman who obviously takes great pride in his business. He gave us Maps of the city and even drew on the maps special points of interest we were not to miss while in Rome. He even gave us tips to avoid the Pickpockets, which we already knew but appreciated just the same.
I actually foiled a Pickpocket attempt on another person at the Big market they have on Sundays, The crook saw me watching her and stopped trying to get the lady's bag open, but stayed close, until my wife informed the lady that her bag was open, at that point the Pickpocket dissappeared(Short, Blonde gypsy looking girl about 20) So watch your bags, I'm sure many more succeed then get caught.

The owner spoke enough English for us to understand him so the language barrier is no problem.
He even was nice enough to give my youngest son a Hat as a souvenir when we were on our way out the door.

I highly recommend this hotel for a visit to Rome. The neighborhood around the train station is filled with good restaurants, everything from Indian, Italian, Chinese, Ethiopian and plenty of cafes and bars. The area around the train station gets a little shady at night, with all the street people so just remain aware of your surroundings and you will be fine.
