“Molto Bene!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

I spent 5 nights with my boyfriend in the 4th floor b´n´b. Overall it was a really nice place to stay. Before we arrived we felt a little worried because of some bad reviews we read about this place. But it was not bad at all. We had a nice room with a romantic view to the backyards and all the roofs we could see. The room had a good temperature and even if it got a little hot there was this nice windblower to relieve the exhaustion from the weather. Lauro, the owner of the place, was really nice to us and he didn´t interrupt us when we were in our room. He also was happy to awnser all the questions and pointed out good ways to get from point A to point B. It´s the best place to spend your nights when your main goal in Rome is sightseeing, because it´s ony a 3 minute walk to the Vatican. It´s not that important to have a luxurious bed and breakfest, since you will be so tired after all these days, that when you get back to your room, the only thing you do is sleep. To all of those that get a little worried about not having a lock on your room, don´t be. Nothing was lost or stolen or touched or looked at whatsoever. Lauro never even came to our room while we were staying there. He´s a great man who respects others privacy and well-being and i suggest you do the same. He gives you a key of his front door and aparment and that should be all you need to ensure a safe place to keep your things. For me the breakfast was great. I don´t usually eat in the mornings but free coffee is a great way to get me out of the bed early enough to get to go anywhere i want at a decent time. The bathroom does have a real hook, not a rubberband as you might have read from a certain review. I strongly suggest this place to everyone, who is looking for a fair price near Vatican and are happy with a simple room and a lovely breakfast. The location saved us a lot of time away from traffic, public transportation and walking. All the best, Katrin

“Perfect experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2011

We stayed in July 2011 for 3 nights at this b&b and were very happy with our stay.
The host Lauro runs a unique place - as my wife observed: where else in the world can you still find a place like this – as not only the location is absolutely perfect for visiting Rome (you can reach all major sights easily by foot), but also the rates are great!

We often like to book b&b’s on our travels, as it is the best way to understand a little of the country you are visiting. Because living inside the houses, having conversation with the persons, eating food the way they do, observing their habits, etc. gives you a much richer idea of the character and atmosphere of a country then just visiting monuments (for that you should better stay at home, as pictures and books present them almost always more beautiful then the way you can observe them during your visit). So we are well aware that private hospitality is something quite different from 5-star service. Hotels offer you commercial smiles and useless swimmingpools, while persons like Lauro welcome you in their homes and lives and offer you their personal style of hospitality.

At our arrival Lauro welcomed us warmly and we had a nice long conversation regarding Rome, its history and its habits. The room that he offered us was excellent: spacious, clean and nicely decorated. We felt quickly at home and have slept very well those nights. The bathroom was clean and the breakfast was perfect too. Being used to living in an apartment and having a quick croissant and coffee at the café on the corner, the breakfast on the lovely terrace with its view on ancient rome was a feast in itself.

In the days that followed we were lucky enough to encounter Lauro on some quiet moments so that he could tell us more about his work and charming life, he is an theatre-actor/author/director with a long experience, which gave us also some unique insight in different aspects of Italian culture and artistic milieu.

All in all we had a marvelous time in Rome and have already recommended Lauro and the 4th floor b&b to some of our closest friends.

“Worst stay of our lives!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011 via mobile

My 11 year old daughter and I stayed here in route to Ethiopia.
Every aspect of staying in this godforsaken "b&b" was a joke!! We are used to camping and staying in youth hostels, but this wad by far the craziest place I've ever stayed, and I grew up living on tents and s school bus without running water and an outhouse:)

We arrived to find out that the owner was out of the country for our entire stay! There was no lock for our freezing room with a thin coverlet.
Every window was barred shut with metal shutters besides our room and the bathroom.
We had to walk down the street for a meager breakfast of a croissant and cup of coffee.

When we first arrived I was taken to an ATM by a rough lady and commanded to withdraw my entire b&b charge as well as the hefty key deposit, the ATM didn't work fortunately for us and the woman wanted to make sure I wasn't lying so she watched me do the transaction, I gave her the 100 euro key deposit and one nights stay of money I had, she was incredibly angry that I didn't give her the entire amount!

We decided to leave after 2 nights of staying in that joke of a B&b, we quickly packed up our stuff and took a untraveled road out of the area we had 2 massive suitcases filled with donations for the orphanage in Ethiopia we were visiting! Within minutes someone I have no idea who must of spied us leaving and called the owner who in turn called my husband in the USA abs went off on him for us cheating them of what we owed. I payed over for 2 nights there for something that was not advertised accurately or honestly!

It was a terrifying event to be taken to the ATM and it even felt like we were being spied upon.. Lol now I guess!
It was like Bourne identity or something!!

“Such a good place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2010

Here is our experience at the Bed and Breakfast-Rome-4thfloor
Just arrived they welcomed us in a very pleasant and hospitable, but saying that the room we saw on the internet was not available and then we would have to sleep in another room. A little 'uncertain, we wanted to see the other room and it immediately seemed very nice, large, with a large table and decorated in an ethnic and artistic style and very original with many books on theater because our guest is an author and theatre actor. We accepted and we are very happy about that because we spent three wonderful days in Rome at Lauro's house, a very nice person and full of useful, cultural and art information about the city in general. We slept very well in a very comfortable bed, new, and wool made by a craftsman. We are grateful to Lauro for hosting us in a very familiar way, making us feel at home. The terrace is full of plants and trees where it's nice to have breakfast talking about theatre, film and art.

“Very disappointing!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2010

God i love how you can be fooled with some nice picture on a website and a cheesy description! I'd say the owner Lauro has to choose if he wants to be a writer or a hotelier because clearly he is not able to be both!
I think i'll make a list of all the pros and cons and keep it easy.
PROS:
- amazing location, literally 5 minutes from St.Peter's
- bus n.40 from Termini train station stops very close to it (100mt)
- very nice terrace

CONS:
- there is no lock on the room door
- the room we slept in was his "studio" filled with his stuff
- we had to sleep on a sofa bed with a horrible mattress
- no air conditioning or fan (it was 35 degrees in rome)
- we couldn't leave the window open because of the NON STOP traffic outside, it sounded like a racetrack at every hour of day and night
- breakfast consists in a lousy tea or coffee with toast rusk, jam and juice
- as a guest you don't have access to the kitchen and you can't avail of a fridge
- the bathroom lock consists in a rubber string

Probably one of the worst experiences i've ever had. DO NOT go there.
