“Convenient Location and Helpful Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2007

The hotel was convenient to the Termini and only about a 10 minute walk, just watch your personal belongings while in Rome. The room was large, but the bed wasn't too comfortable. The bathroom was adequate, but definitely showing it's age. It was a fair deal for the location, price, and time of year. The elevator was broken on arrival, so we had to cart our things up 5 flights of stairs. It was fixed the next day. There was A/C in the room, which was important with the 80 degree August weather. The front desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful and all spoke fluent English and were actually pretty funny and entertaining. The Rome airport misplaced my baggage for a period, and they were more than happy to speak with them in Italian and help figure out the confusion. They also had some great suggestions for attractions, transportation, and tours. One of the best parts was the restaurant directly across the street from the hotel. We tried many, but this was the best deal and meal we found. Great pasta, pizza, crustinis, and service. It's one of the few places that do not assess a cover charge (yes cover charges for restaurants...usually those close to the popular attractions...I was surprised too) and it was entertaining to watch the staff corral new customers as they walk down the sidewalk. One important piece of info about the hotel: no visitors that are not guests are allowed in the buidling. If you're in the city with friends that are staying at another hotel, be aware that you won't be able to hang in your hotel together.

“Is it Hotel Fiorini or Hotel Serena?”

Thankfully we read Filamblogger's review before we went and we were able to locate the hotel easily. Website needs updating to let others know where to find it.

Good location, reasonably priced restaurants close by. Public transport easily accessed at Termini. Within walking distance of many of the major sights.

Staff always polite and friendly at reception and at breakfast. If you don't like the coffee from the 'machine' the lady behind the bar will make you a fresh espresso etc.

Room 510 was quite spacious, very clean but 'shabby'.

“Good location for the price”

We stayed in this hotel from February 7 to 14 and then overnight on February 21. It is located on Via Principe Amedeo near the Termini or train station. This is a 2 star hotel so don't expect luxurious accommocations.

On the negative side, the room was small and spartan (of course), the elevator old, and the linens and towels smelled like vinegar. Plus, the neighborhood seemed quite seedy and dangerous to walk around at night with men congregating at some corners but we also saw plenty of tourists. The hotel itself was hard to locate. Hotel Fiorini is on the fifth floor of the building and the hotel reception desk and facade showed Hotel Serena but they do service Fiorini. Re TV, it was all in Italian except for the mostly british broadcast of CNN.

On the positive side, the location was very convenient. It is next to restaurants, shopping, minimarkets, other small hotels including Hotel California across the street and internet centers (they call them internet points with phone booths for cheap overseas calls). Four doors away was a laundromat with internet so it's surfing with washing. Next door was an sexy loungerie shop and around the corner was a nice family restaurant. The hotel is 2 blocks to the Termini and walking distance to the majestic Colosseum and the Santa Maria Maggiore church whose ceiling is gold! The staff were helpful and courteous and spoke good English, the breakfast was OK (croissants, ham, cheese, bread, coffee and juices) and served at the 2nd floor, and the hallways and room appeared clean.

The hotel was packaged for us by Air France as we had booked rail passes to Venice for our ferry ride to Ischia where we had timeshare accomodations. So they chose this hotel that is close to the Termini.

For its price (under 80 euros in winter), it is a good place to rest and have breakfast (for 2) before your daily adventure throughout the city of Rome.
