I stayed at Patty's Rooms B&B for one week in April 2005. I had a wonderful time and really felt like I was "part of the family" by the time I left. Patty and Rudy, the proprietors, have two rooms for rent in their flat, which is situated in a quiet, suburban neighborhood of Rome known as Monteverde (near Trastevere and Doria Pamphilj). They speak a variety of languages, including Italian, English, French, Spanish, and German. Both rooms have their own private bathrooms (not en suite but right next to your bedroom door). My room was large and clean, with an extremely comfortable queen-sized bed. There was also a twin bed in the room so, in theory, you could sleep three people in the room. The bathroom was large and very clean, with a shower, sink, toilet, and bidet (no bathtub). The second room has a balcony and faces the street, which might be too noisy for some guests. The flat is in a gated community with a security guard, so I felt very safe, although I felt that the neighborhood was safe anyway. The B&B is not centrally-located, but it does offer a lot of value for the money, and public transportation connections are plentiful and easy. Each morning after breakfast I would take the tram in from the terminus in Monteverde to the other end of the line, which dropped me off right at Largo Argentina, which IS right in the center of Rome. Breakfast is substantial and consists of a pastry, a bread, juice, yogurt, and coffee. In addition to the breakfast, they also have a large variety of snacks available as a "minibar" for the guests. You write down what you have taken and they add it onto your bill. They also offer internet usage for a good rate and they are available to do laundry although you do have to plan ahead a little bit as everything air dries. Patty and Rudy also offer an extremely convenient and helpful car service, so they are able to pick you up or take you to the airport or other locations throughout the city. I had them pick me up at the Tiburtina bus station and that was really a lifesaver, as I was nervous about trying to find their place on my own. In addition, they are also available to drive you to other locations outside of the city if you want to do sightseeing. If I return to Rome, I plan to stay with Patty and Rudy!
