“Affordable Accommodation in Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2010

You will find the Hotel Continentale not too far away from Roma Termini Station (which is the main railway station). Nearby there is a bus and metro station and so you will reach all parts of Rome’s city centre in an appropriate time. Well, the building that contains the hotel cannot be called attractive and the hotel does not offer a beautiful sight as well. Rooms are rather small, but they are clean and the furniture is in a relatively good condition. The whole hotel is absolutely o.k. and sufficient if you do not look for too much luxury, but for an affordable accommodation.

The staff (most of them English speaking) is very friendly and helpful. They make you enjoy your stay.

Breakfast can be called surprisingly good compared to other hotels in Italy in general and in Rome in particular.

The price-quality ratio is really excellent.

So if you come to Rome and look for a practical accommodation without lots of luxury, but at a reasonable price the Hotel Continentale is a good choice.

“poor quality for the price”

I stayed 2 nights in this hotel, with a friend, paying US$145/night.

Positive things: staff is friendly, curteous and speaks acceptable English; breakfast is acceptable in quality, diversity and amount

Negative things: the room is tiny, the bed is very uncomfortable, the bathroom and especially the shower is so tiny that it's almost impossible to use; everything in the room is old and outdated; the TV is a 12" analog TV.

“Nice hotel in a great location near Termini.”

Hotel Continentale is a budget-friendly hotel. Offers basic accommodation in a great location. A short walk from Termini. The hotel is in building that houses a few more similar hotels. Being a solo traveller, I got a single room but with a large double bed. My room was in the corner, away from the noise. The window opened in a backyard of buildings so didn't have a great view, but the quietness was good. The staff at the front are extremely friendly and helpful. Free wi-fi is available in the lobby and the breakfast room. Talking of breakfast, Continentale perhaps has the best buffet breakfast that I've seen in budget hotels in Italy. Lots of juice, croissants, donuts, cheese and yogurt etc.!! Overall, a nice, friendly, hotel in a convenient location.

“good place to sleep in overpriced Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 May 2010

I spend a lot of time reading all reviews to find an acceptable cheap hotel near the train station. Rome is VERY expensive: if you want "ritz-like" service you need to pay for it. Continentale hotel is a cheap place by Rome standards, but it is NOT a hostel, it provides all basic accommodations with overall good service. I paid $480 for 4 nights for double room thru orbitz.com with coupons/discounts. The hotel is less than 10 min. walk from Termini and 3 min from another metro station. There are couple more hotels in the same building. The hotel is run by an Italian family (unlike Indians next door), very polite and friendly. The breakfast was included in the room price and was standard european style, though the choices decreased after 9am. The room is small, has a big closet and the desk. The small TV (~12" ?) is mounted by the ceiling.
Unless you are planning to use this hotel only to sleep at night or occasional day rests, don't consider it and pay more than $400/night for a full service hotel. It's a safe neighborhood and a local "magistratura" is the next building. Now negatives: 1) only one power outlet in the room, 2) minuscule shower - "grasso americano" may not fit at all :-) but there is extra space for bidet, 3) the "double" bed is made from two twins - may separate at night
4) no personal safe in the room, though the reception desk stored safely our documents

i booked this hotel after reading reviews that it was "ok" for what it was.. a great value. now im a budget traveler usally stay at best westerns, days inn, holiday inns, etc..a standard room for a decent price. that is what i assumed this hotel was like.. italys version of a days inn, standard stay no thrills but fine for a place to sleep. this plaCE WAS MORE LIKE a hostel. the rm was so small my husband and i had to move our luggage every time we had to open the door to the room or bathroom. it was disgusting, sandy sheets, the room was so outdated and when pieces of furniture broke they left it in the room. there was old dry wall pieces and broken knobs to furniture in the dresser draws. there was only one outlet. the shower was so small it was almost impossible to take a shower and im 5'2 115lbs.. i guess if ur any bigger than that ur [--] out of luck. the staff was nice accept the guy. the bed was so uncomfortable.. i could go on forever.. do not stay here unless u LITERALLY do not care about the room.. i thought i was one of those ppl but i was wrong. not worth the great price or excellent location. there is no safe in the room. i felt like there was no privacy.. like i said it felt like a hostel.. lke someone was gunna barg in.. i didnt even feel comfortable changing in the room. after two nights we left and booked a different hotel even though we were not reimbursed.. it was worth the money loss... terrible terrible.. good for college studetns travling with friends NOT SPOUSES OR FAMILIES.
