“You get what you pay for”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 September 2011

Rome is very expensive and this is a reaonably priced hotel, with clean rooms which were serviced daily, fairly pleasant staff with good english skills and located close to the termini train station. There is also a cheap bar across the road which is very lively (it's part of a hostel but good atmosphere) and a nice restaurant just two doors down. If you had a room at the front I expect it would be noisy but we were at the back and it was fine.
However, it is not really that great a location for the sites of Rome so you need to be prepared for a lot of walking or use the Metro/buses, which are close by. Our room was clean but that's about the only positive. The air con was very ineffective, tiny TV on top of the tall wardrobe, small shower, and dark outdated room. My bed was comfortable but my friends matress was old lumpy and springy. Luckily we were in a triple room so she could swap the matress!
I think if you just want a clean base without many other expectations for your accomodation then it's ok, but I would sincerely hope that something a little fresher and more modern for the same price could be found. There was no fridge, tea/coffee facilites, safe or other amenities in the room!
Some of the reviews said the area was unsafe but we found it perfectly fine, as two females, and never felt any problems regarding security.
Our room price didn't include breakfast so I can't comment on the food but the other negative was that the free Wifi was only intermittantly available and you had to go to the breakfast room to be (90%) sure it would connect!

Room Tip: Make sure the room is at the back to avoid street/bar noise.

My MacBook Pro Laptop and my parents Ipad was stolen out of the room. The hotel said they would reimburse us for the stolen items. We are still waiting for the check and will let everyone know if we get it or not.

“A lot better than the reviews made it sound!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2011

No problems at all! The reviews on here made it sound like a dingy unsafe little room with a tiny bathroom but both were spacious enough, the room was clean and there was very little noise from outside - a pleasant surprise after reading the reviews! The mattress seemed a bit old but still slept comfortably. Reception were happy to hold our luggage until our flight and hold our (heavy!) room key whilst we were out. Free maps of Rome at reception too, bigger than the one we'd brought with us, and great location 5 minutes from the Termini! Only bad points, no safe or fridge in the room, but it didn't inconvenience us. Highly recommended!

“Affordable Accommodation in Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2010

You will find the Hotel Continentale not too far away from Roma Termini Station (which is the main railway station). Nearby there is a bus and metro station and so you will reach all parts of Rome’s city centre in an appropriate time. Well, the building that contains the hotel cannot be called attractive and the hotel does not offer a beautiful sight as well. Rooms are rather small, but they are clean and the furniture is in a relatively good condition. The whole hotel is absolutely o.k. and sufficient if you do not look for too much luxury, but for an affordable accommodation.

The staff (most of them English speaking) is very friendly and helpful. They make you enjoy your stay.

Breakfast can be called surprisingly good compared to other hotels in Italy in general and in Rome in particular.

The price-quality ratio is really excellent.

So if you come to Rome and look for a practical accommodation without lots of luxury, but at a reasonable price the Hotel Continentale is a good choice.
