“Second visit, still happy!”

My boyfriend and I stayed here again at the very end of September for 5 days / 4 nights. (See my previous review earlier this year).

We booked through Expedia again, and the flights for both of us (EasyJet) plus the 4 nights' accommodation came to just over £500 for both of us (think it worked out at £262 each). So again, we didn't pay full price for this.

Again, we had a Venezia bungalow for 2 people, although this one was older than the one we had last time. Still perfectly acceptable, but in need of a little TLC. (Incidentally, this one was Venezia 1; the one we stayed in before was Venezia 30). Everything worked (fridge, air con, shower etc) and we had the little veranda outside as with our previous stay.

This time we flew into Fiumicino Airport (last time was to Ciampino) and we got a train directly from the airport to Ostiense (near the Pyramid metro stop). We got another travel card; last time it was the CIS for 16 Euros; this time it was a similar thing but included the trip to the airport & back (in a different travel zone) so this was 23 Euros. Still a complete bargain considering the Leonardo Express train that takes you to Termini was 14 Euros (I think each way!!).

Anyway, we ate at the onsite restaurant most nights; absolutely delicious food each time & great service. Breakfast was included in the price so every morning we sat outside in the sun; beautiful! Again, their service was great. When we checked in, one of the owners / managers was there & he recognised us from before so that was nice as well, and they even checked availability of our previous room (number 30, rather than 1) as we'd mentioned that's where we'd stayed before (it was being used so we couldn't move).

My only suggestion is that next time we go (as I'm quite sure there'll be a next time!) then I'm going to request Venezia room 30 as it was slightly more modern than number 1, and slightly better positioned for the sun.

All in all, we were delighted with it again and will continue to go back there and recommend it to others!

Room Tip: See my main review - if you've opted for a Venezia bungalow, some are slightly more modern than...

“Great price”

This is not an easy place to get to if you are using public transport. The walk from Due Ponti train station is dangerous. Also, the train from Flaminio to Due Ponti looks very dodgy (not that we had any issues on it). Upon check in we were required to leave a passport as deposit, which we were nit happy about because they are simply put in an open cabinet at all times. When we walked in to our room we could smell the chlorine that had been used to clean it. It was very strong and overpowering. It did not go away when we opened the windows either. The walk to and from reception is long but okay. We did use the free courtesy car when it was available too. The laundry was very expensive (5 euros per wash; coins only) and did not do a very good job. Our clothes smelt like washing detergent for several days after. The dryer was worse though. This was also 5 euros and the only setting was warm air, so after 35 minutes our clothes were still wet. As it was night time we could not hang them anywhere outside.
As for our room, it was ok. A comfortable bed and a fridge, tv, desk. Bathroom was okay, but we had a daily fight with the shower head as it would not stay in position. The blankets that were available for our bed were only half the size of the bed, so we were cold at night. This would have been okay had our heater worked, but it didn't. As it was getting cold at night, our room was quite cold too. There was also condensation on the inside of the windows and walls and we could hear it dripping on to the floor during the night.
The breakfast was good and we ate at the restaurant a couple of times and that was good too, even if the service was a little slow.
Overall, our stay was okay with the price being the biggest drawcard. We would probably pay more and stay closer to the city next time though.

We rent a bungalow for two. It was brand new, perfectly equipped, well heated and everybody was helpful. We had rented a car so the 10 km to the city was easy.

“Great Place On A Budget”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

Located on north side of Rome, this nice campground also has cabins/bungalows to rent. You can quickly and inexpensively get access into into Rome (~20 minutes) by taking the train (the station is within walking distance) across the street from the main entry gate. The Bungalow Park is a little difficult to find though, especially at dark. A nice pool. although it was cold in early October. You must wear a swim cap (can purchase one a the bar for $2-3). They put on a good breakfast buffet and there are laundry facilities to wash/dry your clothing albeit expensive. The cabins have a personal bath but the shower was a little too small for me (I am 6'4" and 270lbs) so you can opt for the common showers which are kept super clean and have private shower stalls. Kind of nice having a farm next door and hearing the chickens and animals. Really is peaceful and certainly not what one would expect in Rome.

“The worst place I've ever stayed...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

We had booked Flaminio thru hotels.com for our annual family trip (myself, my sister and her husband and their 2 children) and pre-payed for a total of 5 persons staying at one of their chalets for 5 nights.

I was the first to arrive at Flaminio at 6.30pm, the other 4 arriving on a later flight.

At check-in I was informed that the chalet assigned to our party was for 4 persons only, and we would need to pay for an additional 2-person chalet for the 5th person (me).

Since I had a printout of the booking+payment receipt, I knew that we had booked and paid for 5 persons, and I flatly refused to pay more money. We did, however, agree that when the rest of the party arrived we would sort things out. They asked to see my passport, which I showed, sensing no mischief. But they wouldn't give it back to me!. They claimed that it was their right to hold some ID during our stay, but I was offered no explanation. As I had a choise of either standing in a cold reception for 4 hours until the rest of my party arrived, or leave my passport for the time being and get a key to a hopefully warm room (this was a bloody cold october night in Rome) and then try to retrieve my passport later when hopefully this mess was sorted out, I opted for the latter.

The 'chalet' turned out to be a bleak and cold shack, with a somewhat decent queensize bed (granted) and a 1½ pers foldup bed which was as lumpy and hard as a rock to sit in (and, as we found out later, to sleep in). A table in the corner some 40x40cm that could hardly fit 2 let alone 4, or 5 as we were. TV had CNN, but the signal was rather spotty.

Due to a flight delay the rest of the party arrived close to midnight and was informed that I had to to move to a shack elsewhere in the park, as the booked shack was for 4 persons only. On top of that my sister was thoroughly told off for booking 1 person short (which she hadn't!), and the guy at the reception desk was told off by a manager for letting me in without paying.

I pretended to move into my own shack, but we decided that I should simply bunk up with my family as we intended all along, even if we had to share the beds, 2 kids and dad in the queen, sister and I in the 1½ pers fold-out bed.

But worse was yet to come...

The heater in the shack turned out to be broken (it was no more than 8-10° C outside) and beds had only sheet and a thin blanket. The toilet stopped flushing after a few visits, there was no warm water, and the cold water ran with just a tiny trickle. Curtains were missing, so we had to cover windows with towels to get a bit of privacy from the guests in the neighboring shack a few meters away.

We went to bed at 01:00 wearing every piece of clothing we had brought, and around 3:30 am we could bear it no more, shaking with cold, and called reception desk on our cell phone (the shacks having no phones) for help with the heater. We had to call several times until some nice but utterly useless 'janitor' showed up, spent an hour or so banging haphazardly on the plumbing, the heater, the air con and whatever he thougt would miraculously beat some life into the heater, but eventually he gave up, shook his head and left us to our own devices. He did, to his credit, bring a few extra blankets, which helped a tiny bit, but only just so.

Having had no real sleep, worrying about kids getting pneumonia, worrying of never seeing my passport again, we got up early, called hotels.com and told them that we would under NO circumstances spend another night in that godforsaken place.

Hotels.com called us back after 20 mins to tell us they had found us another hotel and gave us a refund matching the one night's sleep we didn't get.

I went to the reception and asked for my passport, which I got (phew!) and said that we were checking out because we were NOT satisfied. The lady at the reception desk offered no apology or explanation, nor did she offer to make things better if we'd stay, she just gave us a really mean look. While we waited for hotels.com to call back, we heard several other guests checking out all for similar reasons as ours.

I will never stay there again, nor do I recommend this place to others. They get 1 star, because I can't give less...
