“Camping at it's finest =)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

I stayed at Camping Roma a while ago to be honest, so I hope that it is still as wonderful now as it was 1 1/2 years ago! A friend and I were backpacking across Europe and booking hostels as we went. The idea of camping was brought to our attention when we camped in Venice and it seemed a lot cheaper than hostels (at this point in the trip, we needed cheap) The camground in Venice is great and I woulod recommend that one as well (Camping Fusina).

We stayed at Camping Roma for 4 nights in a house tent and I thought it was wonderful. There is a restaurant and a bar that turns into a nightclub at night(DJ, drinks, dancing). The food was great! the service was fast and people were friendly :) There is also a store onsite to buy liquor and snacks and stuff like that but there is a large grocery store across the street that has a lot to offer.

The campground isn't located in the city center but it's only a bus/metro away. Plus being in the city center can be loud and less safe I would say. It's nice to escape the hustle and bustle of Romes busy busy streets and get away to a nice quiet campground.

There is also a couple pools onsite which is nice for the hot days, lots of lounge chairs.

I really can't think of anything bad to say about this place except the mosquitos but there isn't much to do about that... Buy bug spray!

“Not flash but still pricey for a camp site.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011 via mobile

Cabins are noisy and the whole thing shakes if other people are walking around in a neighbouring cabin (which is connected). I'd imagine they'd be freezing in the midst of winter as they were chilli in Oct. Wifi IS free but you need to get a code from the front desk and you need to use the pcs provided. We couldn't get connectivity in our cabin. It would be better if there were external cooking facilities (eg BBQ or camp kitchen) and if cabins had their own kettle. I'd stay clear of the restaurant which is pricey and the staff rude/unhelpful. It is a hike to the centre...be warned! Oh and trains were shutting down at 9pm during our stay, so you will need to know your night buses if you plan staying out late...or missing the rapid train from Naples to Rome like we did!! We wouldnt stay at any of their sites again.

“Good place for the budget traveller, not in the city centre!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2011

This is a good base for first timers visiting Rome. We have another visit to Rome shortly and we are glad we have booked accommodation closer to the city centre as you have to catch public transport from PLUS camping (which isn't always easy in Italy) to the city's sights. There is a shuttle bus that takes you to the Vatican, but it dumps you on some random street near a bus station and you get vague directions to the attraction. TAKE A MAP! The bus gets cramped too during peak season so get there early...although the driver doesn't mind shoving the passengers in like sardines.

We stayed in a 3 bed bungalow which was clean, although it smelled really bad of cigarettes. It has air con which is great during summer and due to its high population of guests, can often be quite noisy especially if you have drunken 20 somethings in the bungalow right next door. The walls are thin and when the neighbours move around it shakes the whole cabin. But this is a budget accomodation and for the price it was sufficient and in addition the amenities onsite are good... i.e supermarket, restaurant, pool etc.

I would recommend this but something similiar in the heart of the city would be better especially in the summer peak periods.

“It was a great alternative to expensive hostels”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2011

We stayed in one of the cabins with 3 of us and it was very cute.. it was really clean and when we got some bug bites (which were not bed bugs but we had been paro from getting them in venice) they cleared out our whole room searching to make sure and also traded us cabins so that we felt safe, which we were greatful for. The bar was good at the campsite but if you wanted to go somewhere off of the camp site it was a bit difficult to get around but as long as you can read bus routes you are fine. There was also a grocery store directly across the road which was convenient and a restaurant one the campsite. the pool would have been nice but there were a lot of children in it, which i guess can be expected. Overall it was a good place to stay and i would recommend people stay there, and I would stay there again as well.

“Excellent value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2011

Stayed in September 2010 on a short break with friends. Rented out a mobile home which had 3 beds and a bathroom in it. Whilst basic it was comfortable and clean.
The site itself is excellent. There is a very reasonable bus into Vatican City which runs several times a day. It is very easy from where the bus drops you off to get into the centre of Rome and to the stations and everything was very straight forward. The staff were excellent and there was a bar and restaurant on site. There is also a small shop which was adequate although there is a large supermarket across the road which was helpful.
The swimming pool on site was lovely and we spent a lot of time there and at the bar there.
Would recommend.
