“Won't be back”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2011

GREAT LOCATION! However, I just stayed 3 nights at this hotel and was terribly disappointed. The pictures are deceiving on the website. Where to start....the walls are thin, windows don't close all the way, bed mattress is thin and uncomfortable, bathroom desperately needs remodeling and has the world's smallest shower, layout of the room is poor, floors were dirty. I could go on-and-on. Staff seemed just as miserable working there and did not have enough manners to even greet guests. Every time you asked them a question or walked up to the front desk, they seemed annoyed. I must say that upon arrival, Aga was very nice. Other than her, the hotel was not worth the price (even based on European standards). Shame on me for not doing a better job of reading reviews and choosing a more decent hotel. The address of the hotel is not visible on the street. Thank goodness the taxi driver knew the hotel, otherwise we would have been looking for hours for the dump. Oh, website didn't mention that the hotel is within a building shared by other hotels.

“Be Careful.”

Stayed here last week for 2 nights. The location of the hotel is ideal, just off the main shopping street and within walking distance of all the main tourist areas. I would advise people to do a search for a picture of the outside of the hotel or go on google earth to see a picture as there are no signs to say that there is a hotel here. It is not what is considered a hotel in general, it really is just a reception desk with rooms on the 3rd floor of a building. The room we were staying in was reasonabley priced for the location although I found it very annoying that our room did not have a window that you could look out, there was a small window under the ceiling very high up but you could not see from it.
The rooms are nicely decorated although could do with more attention to cleanliness. There was a large flat screen t.v and they provided a laptop (didnt work) and free wifi, again got the code from reception but it kept cutting out.
However besides all of this we did not spend much time in the room so all of this can be overlooked.
The thing that prompted me to write this review was the staff. Check-in was fine and the gentleman working was a pleasure to deal with. However there was a dark haired lady working on the morning we checked out, we went to checkout and we were informed that cash would be preffered method of payment, I accept this may be the case in some places, however there were signs clearly on display with credit cards accepted. She proceeded to tell me that normally credit cards incur a 50% extra charge, I thought I would laugh in the ladies face as it was the most ridicolous thing I have ever heard and especially as I work in the industry myself. My advice to anyone who plans to stay here is that the location is ideal, the room is ok if that all u need and dont plan on spending much time there and to stand up to the obnoxious receptionist who thinks they can rip off tourists.

“Not Anymore....”

In general most of the hotels in Rome are bad and expensive but Hotel Montecitorio is really one of the worst place value for money. Rooms are very little i think they are less than 10 square meters, bed were really uncomfortable and the window could be closed properly.

When we arrived the bathroom was not cleaned....

At the reception they made us pay 2 euros per day person as en extra tax that was not reported in the voucher...

For 140 euros per day without breakfast I would have a expected a much better place.

“horrible hotel...do not stay there!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2010

We booked this hotel for a week but had to leave after one night: the room was tiniest and noisiest even by European standards...Furthermore, in violation their own cancellation policy, they charge us for an extra night, after we decided to move out...We join other numerous travelers who also stayed at that hotel with this warming: AVOID THIS HOTEL!!!

“Great location and great value”

The Hotel Montecitorio is a great place to sleep. You won't find a luxurious lobby, or a gourmet restaurant, it has neither of these things. But the rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful, the air conditioning works very well, and the price is extremely reasonable, for the historical centre of Rome. Our room was very small -- the king-sized bed took up most of it -- but the bathroom was quite large. There is no restaurant, but you're only steps from several bars and restaurants. On the first morning, we found a nice little bar around the corner (Bar della Vite) from the hotel and quickly became well-looked-after regulars for breakfast. We walked everywhere in Rome, which was easily done from our hotel's very central location. A luxurious hotel is a nice treat, but we decided that we'd rather spend our money on fabulous dinners and souvenirs, than hotel extras. We would stay at the Montecitorio again.
