This beautiful old bed and breakfast type hotel in a 200 year old building is perfect for the economy minded traveler who does not demand 24 hour service. There are 15 guest rooms with 5 rooms on 3 floors. The rooms small, but well appointed. There is not much storage space and the bathroom, by American standards, are tiny, but the rooms are spotless and well equipped with good heating and plenty of hot water, even if the shower is slightly smaller than the elevator, which is the smallest in the world. The hotel supplies a variety of free refreshments, including juices, crackers, cookies, etc. and breakfast (croissants and variety of other breads) and has an expresso maker, all of which are included in the price of the hotel.
Special kudos to Alesandro (sp. ?), who was helpful in every way. He gave us us a map and marked the significant landmarks and gave us advice on buses, trains, and other information we requested. He went beyond the call of duty to help us.
The location is a half a kilometer (1/4 mile) from the central train station (Termini). It is walking distance to all the major sites of central and historic Rome, yet far enough from the hubbub and noise associated with the Piazza Square. It is on a quite street one short block from a main thoroughfare. We never felt unsafe, like some other reviewers. We travel a lot, so we are very aware of our surroundings. Maybe the front door is a little in need of painting, but the interior area of the hotel is delightful.
We found our room to be extremely quite, especially after 10:00 p.m. The only noise we heard was our fellow guests walking up and down the tiled hallways and opening and closing their room doors. The door locks are very secure and use a traditional key and take some getting use to. Our bathroom overlooked a delightful courtyard and our bedroom looked out on the backside of a beautiful bassilica.
You will have no problems finding a wide choice of casual to fine restaurants nearby.
