A clean, quiet room with all you need for a comfortable, economical stay in Rome. Best of all is the buffet breakfast that's included, and served in the adjacent Hotel Atlante's rooftop restaurant. Its offerings are varied and satisfying--great pastries, very good coffee, decent cheese, cold cuts, fruit, yogurt, boiled eggs, cold cereals--served in sumptuous surroundings with a view that encompasses nearby St Peter's and the Vatican, the umbrella pines of the Gianicolo, and the generally Fellini-esque vista of terracotta, palms, tiled roofs, golden domes and satelite dishes that is the spirit of Roma. We'd stay here again, in a blink. The only drawback is that the room and the larger suite in which the B&B is housed lack telephones, and the main door has a very tricky lock. On one occasion it took a LONG time to open it and get out; long enough to panic and consider alternative ways to exit. Tying bedsheets together and rapelling down to the silent courtyard below? No trip to Italy is complete without a tiny bit of craziness, I guess.
