We really enjoyed our stay at Casale Altavilla. My husband and I spent 5 nights in the suite, with our 6 & 8 year olds. The main bed was supplemented with two fold-out beds for the kids and there was still plenty of room to move.
My parents joined us, staying in one of the double rooms for 4 nights and they too enjoyed their time at the B&B.
We found Simona to be friendly and helpful - she tracked down the operators of a gladiator school I had read about and booked in my son and husband for a session; she rang the Cinacetta film studios to check they were open on the public holiday before we made the long trip there.
Breakfast was more than adequate and Simona also went to the effort of getting some special cereal for the kids.
There is no doubt that coming back to Casale Altavilla after a day's sightseeing during an early summer heatwave was wonderful! With the gardens and the pool, it was like an oasis.
The trip into Rome was easy, with a bus stop just a couple of minutes walk away. Simona gave us a small map and showed where the main stops were and where we could change onto other buses to get around the city. We had no problems at all.
A wonderful local restaurant recommended by Simona kept us fed us a couple of nights and we also found a chinese restaurant near-by (well, we had been eating pizza and paste everyday for a fortnight!!), where we had a really nice and cheap meal.
Yes, Simona smokes, but that did not affect us in our room. As for the dogs - I am not a dog person, but I did not find them noisy at all. Simona introduced the dogs to my children because my animal-loving daughter was more annoyed that the dogs were ignoring her! They really did keep to themselves - and when you think about, they are a pretty good added security measure!!
At 170 euro per night, for a family of 4, with breakfast included, I think Casale Altavilla was great value. So, if you are happy in a B&B environment (as opposed to the sterile, isolation of a hotel chain), I would recommend Casale Altavilla.
