Katja is a Finnish artist & her Italian husband, Gianluca, is a sommelier. As hosts, they couldn't have been more friendly, helpful and accomodating - case in point: Katja was going to the store and asked if I'd like her to pick up a bottle of wine for me to keep in the refridgerator. I said yes, and would they like some cash now or would they prefer to just add it to my bill? The answer to all of the above was "No, no, no!"
The B & B is just a hop from the Vatican and a couple blocks from the St. Pietro train station & the very convenient #64 bus in a very safe & pleasant neighborhood. If coming from the station it is important to note that Katja's is on *Via* Della Stazione - not *Piazza* Della Stazione! From the station, cross the piazza to the other side of the bus terminus, turn left, walk 2 blocks, turn right. Katja's is in a yellow apartment building at the end of the block with it's front door on the corner.
There are only 2 small rooms rented out; 1 with a single bed and the other with a bunk bed. Katja has decorated the whole place with warmth & whimsy. My room - the single - had no closet; but a bar was cleverly attached to the wall that accomodated 4 or so hanging garments; and there was a large chest of drawers (with fresh flowers on top!). Although not private, the bathroom is immaculate and shared with only 2 others max at any given time. The only negative I could find during my stay was that the shower head is fixed & directly overhead - so there is no such thing as showering *without* washing one's hair! The breakfast room is a delight; and the breakfast (a choice of sweet or savory) is fresh, plentiful and attractively presented. Gianluca likes to serve in shifts in order to provide privacy in dining. Speaking of food - my hosts recommended Trattoria La Vittoria. Get there early! It's reasonably priced, delicious and the staff are friendly and amusing.
It was a delightful stay. I can't wait to return!
